Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
102.5 for 8 x 3 sets

Seated Row, Overhand Grip
75 for 10 x 5 sets

Lat Pulldowns
50 for 10 x 5 sets

Finish.

I was a bit concerned about doing 8s, as I've avoided reps for months because of the trapped nerve, but now is the time to at least try an 8, 5, 3 wave to build strength. The weight was pretty easy, which was pleasing, but the pain in the forearm built rep upon rep, which was not. Thankfully, I only have to do 8s twice every three weeks. On cruise control on rows, and up 5 Kg on pulldowns, so all in all a satisfactory session.

Tomorrow will be much harder - shirted bench to touches, and max deadlifts! The slightly optimistic target is 165.

Thanks for popping in Peter. Happy The shoulder is better, the leg is better, and the trapped nerve is improving. Hopefully, the only way is up. Happy The big lifting issue may be how 7 commentating gigs this year will impact my training.

60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1 - easy
Rage X 46 on
150 for 1 - didn't quite touch
160 for 1
165 for 1 - didn't quite touch

Deadlift
60 for 5
90 for 3
120 for 2
140 for 1
165 for 1 - comeback pb
125 for 3 x 3 sets

Finish

Didn't quite touch the 165 bench, but the lockout was better than anything I've done for a long time. There was near disaster on the 165 hand out, the spotter lost his balance, I managed to stabilize it, but it was pretty off-putting.

So I know I can get an easy touch with 160 with the shirt high up, and I can easily press 165 with the shirt down. This will all factor into my decisions in two weeks time.

Deadlifts, what can I say? Continuing to progress nicely!

Felt wiped out today. Not enough sleep, a bit of a cold, running round most of the day and walking the dogs just before training all contributed I guess. One of these evenings when I may well have given it a miss if there were no training partners. But there were.

Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
140 for 1
112.5 for 5 x 3 sets

Shoulder Horn
3 sets of 20 with light dumbells

Finish

Must be getting stronger if I managed 140 feeling like this. 5s were all fine, bit of work but what's the point otherwise? Zero energy left for rows and pulldowns, so did some light shoulder horns instead. Feel totally wiped out now, but the work is done. Happy

Still wiped out, thank goodness today is active rest day

Incline Press
Bar for 8
40 for 8
50 for 8 x 8 sets

Overhead Press
25 for 10 x 5 sets

Finish.

One day soon I'll do a max strength test on overheads, but for now it's still about reractivating the muscles after two years in hibernation and injured. Couldn't have done much more tonight, zombie-esque. Hopefully better for tomorrow, it's 3s on bench.

Seated Rows
80 for 10 x 3 sets

Lat Pulldowns
50 for 10 x 3 sets

Apparently the bench 3s looked easy but they felt near the limit, got them though. Warm up was a bit rushed, I like to go to a higher single and then come back down. Was able to go up to 100 with no wrapping, which was pleasing.

Upped the seated row weight and was still cruising, struggled more on pulldowns, but remember I haven't been able to do them for 2 years and the movement still triggers the nerve pain in the forearm.

We go again tomorrow, max deadlift, the target is 167.5.

Woke up this morning (da da da da) feeling lousy, actually felt drunk and the floor felt like it was moving, thought I might have to give training a miss.

Bench
Bar for 10 and then thick blue band on
40 for 6
60 for 4
70 for 3
80 for 2
90 for 1
100 for 1
105 for 1
85 for 3 x 3 sets

Deadlift
60 for 5
90 for 3
110 for 2
130 for 1
150 for 1
170 for 1
130 for 3

Finish

Wrecked but happy. Did far better on bench than I expected, only 5 Kg short of comeback pb, and the deadlift WAS a comeback pb. Shoulders still aching from Wednesday, and they benched yesterday and today as well. All in all, feel like I've been hit by a bus, I'll rest well tonight.

Planned 3 x 3 on 130 deadlifts, but ran out of time. Oh well...

I had a similar thing this week - lifted well despite feeling distinctly iffy.

Not far from 200 now!! Happy

It's weird, isn't it? I'm a country mile off 200 mate. I'll probably see 180 by Easter but then hit a wall. My bad leg limits my power off the floor, I can lock out easy but getting it moving is a huge problem. Shouldn't really be doing them at all, anything I get is a bonus. Happy

Good and bad news, but actually mostly good.

Been feeling lousy all weekend, not even a proper cold, just a kind of fatigue. Wouldn't have trained if I had been training alone. And it's 8s tonight, the worst possible session when you're feeling fatigued.

Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
105 for 8
105 for 8
105 for 6
Finish.

The bad news is the 6 on the last set. The good news is that I simply ran out of energy, it wasn't a strength thing. The very good news is that I did the whole session without wrist/forearm wrapping, probably for the first time in over a year. The trapped nerve certainly hasn't gone, but this is the best it's been for a long, long time.

Hopefully energy levels will return soon, it's the comp this coming Sunday, there are heavy weights waiting to be pressed.

Felt so much better than yesterday, amazing the difference 24 hours can make. Bench with bands and speed deadlift was the plan for tonight

Bench
Bar for 10 and then red band on
40 for 8
60 for 6
70 for 5
80 for 4 - felt really heavy
90 for 2
100 for 1
110 for 1
115 for 1 - pretty much my limit for tonight, big fight
90 for 3 - struggled with the third
90 for 3 - easy, who took some weight off?
90 for 3 - easy

Deadlift
The plan was 8 sets of 3 with 110 but I decided to vary it.
60 for 5
110 for 3
110 for 4
110 for 5
110 for 6
110 for 7
Finish

The others made it to 8, I could probably have done it but my hammies started protesting on the 7 set and I would have kicked myself if something had popped pushing it on a movement I can't compete at.

The brilliant news is that I did my whole bench workout without wrapping my bad arm, the less good news is that as my arm hurts less my shoulders hurt more. Ying and yang...?

Active Rest Day

Incline Bench
Bar for 10
30 for 10
40 for 10
55 for 7 x 7 sets

Overhead Press
27.5 for 10 x 5 sets

Finish

The numbers are tiny I know, but I'm determined to build slowly. Shoulders creaking and protesting but got better as the session wore on. Not a lot more to be said.

Preceded by a two hour morning dog walk and an afternoon lugging furniture and other bits and pieces helping Leona's daughter flit into a first floor flat. It would have killed me on Monday, I seem to be much better.

Only bench tonight, a gentle session before Sunday's comp.

Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1
115 for 5 x 3 sets
Finish.

The others did well tonight, both pb'd, one of them hitting 200 lbs for the first time, that's an 11 Kg improvement in a few short weeks.

Once again, I managed to train without wraps! Third time in a row. But as the forearm pain goes, the shoulder pain increases. Thinking back a few months, let's just be grateful I can train!
