Cold here pete! Spring is coming
I am retiring early I will make less, but I will make it up. I am a detective private eye and will spy extra missions. When do you think you will retire? I want to train at your gym with you! It's in my top ten things I want to do.

I cannot help but wonder what I would have turned out like had I been taught by people like you all those years ago. I surely would have been a better, happier and less-flawed person.

The sad thing is that the people you do teach will probably regard you as the norm and never fully realize just how lucky they are.

1. You are educated enough to realize the error in the first place
2. You realize that I would want to know about it
3. You tell me in precisely the manner I would approve of
4. At no point do I get punched, slapped, kicked or punished in a less physical way.

Now that's teaching.

I turn 65 in 2021. that is the age where traditionally the State gives you an old age pension. However that has since been raised to 66 for me (even higher for some younger people)

It was also traditional for people to be enforced to retire when they turned 65, but that is no longer the case. We can carry on for as long as we are able.

Whilst retirement is a dream for many, there does seem to be a change in opinion as the dates draws closer. As a rule of thumb, married men seem to want retirement more and single men seem to want it less.

Obviously other factors, health, traffic etc will play a part. I have penciled in retirement in 2022 at age 66.

You would be most welcome to come and visit us

The smart meters may have been cancelled but the fuse box still needs replacing and the saga rumbles on, yesterday they told me that they would come tomorrow between 12 and 5pm. We'll see. At least it's a none training day.

Same finish point as last week but with two extra sets in there, the 100 and over were all last rep paused and the very last one was hard, really hard

Physio at Cosgroves, the shoulder was given a very hard time and a new remedial exercise has been added in plus a stretch with a rubber band that may has its advantages.

Also the conversation turned to what quite a few people do which I have never seen the point of - the addition of a few extra sets after the top set with about seventy or eighty percent of whatever the top set was. The consensus was that from a strength point of view there is no point. But what could be beneficial was a primer set where a single is done before the top set with the same weight as what the top set will be. The idea is that the single fires up the nerves and makes the top set easier and therefore more productive with a more rapid progress through the weights.

Whereas I am a happily single man of 42 who enjoys his work very much, and, had I an "independent income" of similar size to my earned one, I would retire tomorrow and spend my days indulging my many other interests.

My brother (married) retired last October and he is loving it. The best thing he reckons is that he is now utterly free of time constraints. His daily routine is pretty much the same each day but it is the fact that anything doesn't HAVE to be done at a certain time that he finds liberating.

In that position I would be sorely tempted by the aspect of a double income, to do a job I quite like and get the income and then have a second one of as much again, time and other interests are one thing, but I don't think I could resist the double income bit.

But you struggle to spend the money you have, why would you be tempted by more?

Bang on 12 there was a knock at the door and men arrived to fit a new fusebox. It took about an hour and they were here for about ninety minutes all told.

The problem was that I have hard wired, mains smoke alarms and the moment the electricity was switched off the alarms starting making a hell of a racket. They have battery back up but all this did was flatten the f**kers while making a hell of an unnecessary racket. Surely the battery is there to ensure they go off IF there is smoke. I shall investigate

Friday, 2nd February, start 16:00

Tbar row
20 x 10
20 x 10
30 x 8
40 x 8
50 x 8
60 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8

Tbar shrug
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10

Pulldown to chest, wide grip
50 x 8
55 x 8
60 x 8
65 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8

The shoulder is still a bit ginger from Wednesday's beating, but after these I did a few stretches that the physio showed me on the pulldown machine. Basically you hold the handle at arms length, with the thumb pointing down and than rotate your body so you arm is in the position as if someone was twisting it up your back. You then move closer to the weights and allow gravity to pull on the arm. Works a treat to.

A relaxed weekend is on the cards. So happy days
