Shoulder still sore from Wednesday's physio, so I eschewed bench and just did the remedial stretches that the physio advised.

Quite a few in today, six of us all told, away to the pub for dinner where I had meat pie, veg and mash, it was delicious but it never touched the sides, it just wasn't enough so I had to order another and that really hit the spot. No more food for the rest of the day though, that would be too much.

Oh for the days when I could just eat and never had to give a thought as to how much

Just looked back at two Monday's ago to remind myself of the increments I took and discovered that the top set was a triple at 190, I could have sworn it was 195 but it seems unlikely as two weeks before that was 180. So cancel the memory of 195 and that goes as the target for tonight.

Don't usually get things that wrong. Must have dreamt itConfused

Monday, 5th February, start 16:00

Not many down tonight, not many at all.

Squat, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 6
60 x 5
60 x 5
belt on
100 x 3
140 x 3
160 x 2
180 x 1
187 x 1
195 x 1
195 x 3
All deeply deep, which is music to my ears, the 187 was easier than the 180 before it and the 195 single was easier than the 187. The first two of the 195 triple were easier than I thought they were going to be but the third was a bit of a grind. It would appear that this primer rep, and I believe the smaller jumps after the 180 had a similar effect, could be a good thing in the long term, once I have acclimatized to the extra work I think there may be mileage in it.

Handsome Jeff and Mack spotted me and although I am blissfully unaware of this Jeff assures me that during a squat the bar rolls quite a ridiculous amount which never fails to put the wind up him. It was the first time Mack has spotted me at close quarters and he too admitted that he was rather startled by it.

I don't know why but I do seem to get rather a great deal of pleasure from this. Jeff has spotted me more times than he can remember, but his concern never diminishes. This rather strange bonus aside, I was very happy with this tonight

Deadlift, boots and sleeves still on. Me and the bar on the floor

60 x 3
100 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
All very snappy and fast off the floor, the lighter weight means I don't really need to stand on a board for these, but next week, as these will be heavier, the board should be back

Watched part of an old episode of "whatever happened to the likely lads" the other night, they walked into a pub, ordered a pint each, a roast beef sandwich, a scotch egg, a pasty and a packet of crisps. And the cost was 82p

Still I can remember a bag of chips at 6d (2.5p) from my school days, and when I stated drinking best bitter was 11p and Guinness was 15p

So gentle reader, at the risk of being a very boring old fart, I can remember a time when I could go out, get drunk, buy my supper and have change from a £1 note.

Had you offered me at age 17, £3 a week for life I would have snatched your hand off, as that would have been my Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights out taken care of. Bit what would it get you now - a pint of bitter.

Some quick back-of-an-envelope calculations indicate that if a 17 year old stars drinking Guinness now, then by the time he gets to sixty he will be paying about £104 per pint. So will people on a Saturday night out just have to pop to the cash machine for five or six grand ?

This rather depressing trip down memory lane was brought to you by Fat Pete. thank you for sticking with itHappy

Sparrow and Andy
I always somehow some way return to milestone spots. I hope they are well! They were nice young men with good training advice. Do you think they still train with bigger numbers? Andy had great form.

Andy was a large, strong and talented man, he quite understandably let his family take priority over lifting, though he still keeps his hand in.

Sparrow I haven't seen for a long time, he was heading down the strongman route when last I heard. Haven't heard anything for a while though

Why do speed skaters feel the need to put the word "speed" in there ? It's a race, the first to cross the line wins. We don't have speed running at the Summer games.Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused

Because there isn't a much older, better-established sport called figure running.

The shoulder is still a bit ginger from Wednesday's beating, but after these I did a few stretches that the physio showed me on the pulldown machine. Basically you hold the handle at arms length, with the thumb pointing down and than rotate your body so you arm is in the position as if someone was twisting it up your back. You then move closer to the weights and allow gravity to pull on the arm. Works a treat to.

Interesting
