I believe you can.

I was once told that it was no bad thing to focus on something close and then switch to something far away, then repeat several times, this has a similar effect I'm told.

Also, a babies' eyes at birth are around 80 percent of the size they will be when it is an adult. Consequently humans are programmed to find things with large eyes endearing. A fact that Walt Disney used to good effect

Turner was once a calendar guy for the Adlington members calendar that I made sometime back. I think I tried where possible to align each model to the month of their birthday. Obviously some duplication in birth months meant that this couldn't be done across the board, but Turner was indeed 'Mr April' because of his birth month. Feel free to convey this, and the best of luck with it. Yarr.

Monday, 9th April, start 16:15

I now wear orthotics in my shoes to regain the arch I lost, last week I was able to get them into my squat boots as well as my feet, this week both feet and orthotics will not go, it is either one or the other, so feet it is.

Squat, boots and sleeves on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
belt on
60 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
Deeply deep and no trouble with the knees

Deadlift, boots and sleeves remain
60 x 3
100 x 3
140 x 3
160 x F
160 x 3
The plan was to do triples at 160, 170, 180, 185, 190, 195 and 200 and all was going well until the first 160 when as it passed the knees a sudden, sharp pain shot through the inside of the right knee, I dropped the bar and hobbled back to the chair. As I sat the pain disappeared and all felt well enough, so I tried another set. I completed the triple but these were the worst deadlifts I have done in a very long while. I have had so much aching with my f**king knees for so long that this frightened me, my bottle went completely and still may not have come back. The 160 triple was very backy as I was unable to commit to driving through the legs. Confidence is everything in this game and basically I just don't have any - not anymore. It is now a month since I did anything remotely resembling reasonable on the deadlift front and Lord only knows when the next one will be.
The knees have been improving steadily so this was a real shock tonight and afterwards they felt ok and even now there is but a memory. But the memory will linger for a very long time. The more the knees f**k me about the worse I lift, the worse I lift the more the door opens to let anything good or positive out and the void is filled with a patheticness and despair. It will probably turn out to be something and nothing but it has ripped the heart out of me and made me sadder than I have been for a long while. However I am far to stupid to do anything remotely clever and the only option is to carry on. The future is anything but rosy right now, and my best I was little better than mediocre and my best was ten years back. As Marcellus Wallace said, "I'm pretty f**kin' far from OK" and I may never find my way back, but I ain't going to stop looking.

Sorry for the rather dismal post gentle reader, you deserve better, as do I in all honesty but it's how I feel and therefore should be recorded as such. And tomorrow is a brand new day :-)

Did I detect a sense of Glee yesterday when you gave Turner the rack command after he reracked his bench?

Hell yeah. Not because it was him, I enjoy that with anyone. He beat the press command as well but that may have gone un-noticed by the casual observer, so he had failed from then on, the careless and hasty rack was a bonus

On the theory that misery loves company, I'll mention my own session was so abortive I didn't even log it.

Can I just make the point that at your best you could have had the world title any of several years if you could have been bothered to get on the plane? Mediocre my ARSE.

Sorry to hear about the knees Pete, do you always wear sleeves when squatting? As for slipping on the bench I always chalk up, that stops it for me, any sliding really kills your power.

I do always wear sleeves when squatting, even on the warm-ups, the chalk has been suggested by Rick and others, that will be tried tomorrow.

Thank you

That's very kind Rick, but aside from yourself and Jeff it was often hinted at that it would only have been won because I was the best of a small and not particularly good bunch, I always considered that rather unkind, particularly on my opponents, but I was always made to feel that this was their considered opinion. Doubtless if any read this they would say that it was done in jest, but again, I never got that impression.

On the plus side, my left knee aches a touch this morning but as that is attached to the foot with the fallen arch that was to be expected. The right knee, which caused all the problems last night, doesn't ache at all. My hopes appear to be pinned on two blue, plastic, orthotic inserts. But they do appear to be working and I am happy to report that the black raincloud that hovered directly over my head yesterday has gone, and I feel rather more chipper and optimistic this morning.

We need to get you to the World's, Pete...I believe I could be persuaded to chuck some paper bearing the Queen's Head in to make such a thing a possibility.

As to the knees...as a larger Gentleman I suspect they are always a potential risk factor, but as far as training is concerned upping the squat frequency was always going to increase the stress...are you being a good boy and doing lots of hamstring work?

That's a very kind offer but there is really no need, it isn't a question of money, it's a question of not wanting to spend a single penny on something as horrible as travel.

I agree that there was always a risk factor in being fat, but I have been fat for a long time. The knee problem was caused in my view by the extra squatting from last year. It's my own fault entirely but stopping it has improved it, but sadly it is going to take longer to fix than I wanted or expected. Very little hamstring work is done, now or at anytime in the past. Would it help ? Or would it just tire me more quickly ? Would it be an extra tax on my shot, sixty year old recovery ability ?
