So a fine day out was had as we awayed to Mytholmroyd to watch the girls lift.

After the surprise exhaustion of Wednesday, I was never going to do much, but I did something. Not that much but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

Reffing in Carlisle tomorrow, so it had to be today

If that was Carlisle then I have done it. Not a good venue, small, cramped, poor warm up area but we managed. Great nosebag added much to the day. It's a long way though, 230 mile round trip. That's a bit far by my standards, but the lifters from there have to make the trip a lot more than I do.

Im almost certain your use of the word nose bag is different to the one i know it to mean.

Are you talking about food?

A nosebag is a canvas or leather bag containing food that was hung from a horse's head so that it could eat from it. Not as common now as they once were the term now simply means "something to eat"

Many younger people have assumed it is drug related, presumably meaning a small bag of some illicit substance that is snorted. I see where there are coming from with this, but in here, when used by me, it means food. Nothing else.

My apologies if this disappoints

Ten singles in total and all done quite a but quicker that last time, less rest between reps cos I didn't seem to want or need it. Ewan and Dave watched all the singles and a couple of sets before them. Their verdict was "It doesn't matter how low you go, it's all about how much you sit in at the bottom, open your legs and leave room for that" All ten were deep enough, the first three were a bit "felt for" then the next five were pretty much bob on with more fluency at the bottom, the ninth was an abortion, deep enough but I stopped at the bottom and seemed to forget for a few seconds that I had to stand back up again, on commencing to stand up I then appeared to forget how to stand up. But I got there in the end. The tenth was a peach.

Boots off, pumps on

Deadlift
60 x 5
100 x 3
140 x 3
170 x 3
170 x 3
170 x 3
170 x 3
170 x 3
All as smooth as a virgin's thighs and emphasis on shoulders back. Very enjoyable. Hats off to Mr. McCarthy as I believe the 180 x 10 singles was his idea and it really seems to be shaping up to be a very good one

Limping slightly when I rose this morning, just a niggly ache on the underside of both knees, once moving everything frees up, but the first movement after sitting a while is annoying. I blame that ninth rep from yesterday.

This week I have had to either put lights on at home when I rise or use the car lights on my drive to work or both. This is usually the first sign that Summer is ending and that in the words of the Stark family "Winter is coming"

I don't expect that our winter will be anything like as bad as theirs, but it's on its way. Let's hope that it's mild and damp and not overly cold.

On the plus side, death by deadlift may just pick up a tad in the next few weeks

Wednesday, 16th August, start 16:15

Bit late tonight as Aaron was done so we had a bit of a chat before starting. He obsesses about his weight and cannot visit the gym without weighing himself at least once and frequently doesn't bother to put the scales back under the chair where they live. Due to work commitments he frequently trains alone and I frequently arrive to find the scales on the platform where he has left them. I had vowed to give him "what for" about this when I saw him, but first I decided it was only fair to ask him why he never put them away. "To reassure yoy that I am still coming down and training" was his answer. I like that, the bollocking was never delivered, and I shall see those scales in a different light from now on. Nice one Aaron.

Death by deadlift
60 x 21
It's hot tonight and the sweat is dripping from me from sixteen onwards, also Monday's squats made my legs ache somewhat, and they started to feel it towards the end

Bench, very raw
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
Last one was paused on the three top sets and these were all as easy as one would have expected. I am formulating a plan for a more cyclical approach to this. More details will follow when I have dotted the "i's" and crossed the "t's"

Tricep pushdown
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10

Stayed behind to hand off for Ewan and Big Dave and was rewarded with some very fine benching, they are both in the North Wests in about three weeks and it is all coming together very nicely for the pair of them

If she is driving on the wrong side of the road to the other Americans then please inform her that I respectfully suggest she refrain from this activity as the consequences can be dire
