Matthew is quite right. If I had been out and about the last two days with my summer wheels on I'd have been tiptoeing around and still been a hazard (small RWD rear-engined car with robot clutch!). As it is, wearing snowprox, she's rock-solid right up until she starts to sled on the undertray.

I would be very surprised if that were the case. There are a couple who may very well be with Dave, but they don't usually trains Sundays. It's Glynn, Turner and sometimes Joe and Aaron on a Sunday.

Winter has certainly gotten milder. my dad tells me of some harsh winters back in the 50s and 60s with 1963 being especially bad, with deep snow until may even in lowland areas.

I agree. We had a couple of bad ones about seven years back but since then they have been very mild. This one has been quite cold of late, but hopefully that has been a blip and we shall soon revert to a pleasant drizzle and not much more

Yes and I've not seen anything recently to be critical of... if fools insist on driving Large German saloons with rwd and summer tyres, they've only themselves to blame.

My very first car was RWD, since then it's been FWD all the way, so since circa 1985. Never had winter tyres though. Only ever had one day (second day back at work in the winter of the big snow) when I couldn't get to where I wanted to go. Maybe a couple more where I struggled, other than that - not too bad.

Car says -3 degrees this morning.

The cold never much bothered me in my youth. It does now. Don't like it, really don't like it

Monday, 11th December, start 16:10

Very cold. I am alone.

I decided that the top set of squats for tonight would be 160 as the knees are still in recovery, if I thought about doing 170 or 180 once I thought about it a dozen times

Squat, boots on, sleeves on, tracky bottoms on, hat on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 3
belt on
100 x 3
140 x 3
160 x 3
This was easy but the knees are clunking a bit, I could have gone up, I could have repeated the 160 more than once and was sorely tempted to do so. But I held firm and resisted.

Deadlift, no belt but everything else remains
60 x 3
100 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3
140 x 3

Top inch leg extensions for knee tracking
10 x 8
10 x 8
10 x 8
10 x 8
10 x 8

Only one other person appeared, a pay-by-the-session chap in the other room. Dave competed yesterday so it was quite right and proper that he didn't train, but there wasn't a weightlifter to be seen, no Aaron and no Rick although it is likely that Rick may appear later. Everything was very cold to the touch tonight but the knees grumbled only slightly, there does seem to be some improvement there but this weather certainly doesn't help.

Yes I saw it last week it looks roomy. There was nobody at the club earlier when I went, and I was on an early finish today.

I got in about 630 in the end. April was still putting her shoes on when I arrived, and I putting mine on when Mack arrived, so we had a nice enough evening in the bitter f**king cold. The heaters take the edge off but can't be expected to work miracles.

The woman on the radio this morning gave the weather as being "really proper cold"

I can't argue with that and that is as good a way of describing it as any.

Car says -6 as of five minutes ago

You were all late then. I was done and dusted in not much over an hour and so as you were starting I was just about stepping into a very pleasantly warm shower.

The heaters are a big help but only if you move around a lot, stay still at your peril

Did you go in ? The bench was still at normal person setting and the scales were unused. Are you sure you were really there ?
