See CNP for the article.

I find it highly interesting how he does many exercises which many powerlifters would recommend against... e.g. leg extensions, calf work, front raises, lateral raises, seated curls, leg assistance the day after squats.

He also puts together a beginners routine which looks more like a bodybuilding routine.

In the last 16 weeks before his competitions he doesn't go over 750lbs. He builds the strength in the off season.

He does half an hour cardio three times a week.

The mans lifts speak for themselves, but what does everyone think about his routines?

The slightest negative comment in this context is bound to be vulnerable to "Well, who else deadlifts 1000lb?" type comebacks - but let's just say I wouldn't recommend his training routine to anyone.

I'm a newbie at this but for me I would find it very tiring on my back to do squats and deads on the same day. I try to split mine up so I do say Deads on Tuesday, Bench on Thurs and Squats on Saturday. However I do follow the cadio bit on the off days by running and always take Sunday off.

Thanks for posting the article. It was nevertheless an interesting read for me, especially since I'd never even heard of Andy Bolton! Roll-Eyes

i do like the way he has small blocks of training, and works upto a max of the set amount of reps in this time, the leg assistance day the day after squats and deadlifts though? doesnt make sense to me to be honest

The leg assistance the day after squats and deads strike me as being on the puzzling side.

it might be for the recovery aspect of things... like doing higher rep stuff the day after hevay stuff with me does help reduce doms.. but i cant see him getting much else form it

The bodybuilding stuff is interesting but I am guessing it's as much for recovery as for anything else (as someone else mentioned).

As for sq + dl on same day, thats pretty similar to how I train. For me there's no way I could deadlift heavy then a few days later squat heavy too. I much prefer to do all my serious sq/dl training done on the one day.

However I wasn't impressed by the beginers routine.
