He isn't as fast as Ed, but he's more powerful.

So is Thor the strongest man ever lived?

Athletes get better all the time.

As you say Drex, evolution of sport!

He might become the best ever.

He won't be the greatest, because he most likely won't have as many major comp wins.

But I think he has reached new kind of level.

Well done Thor. I’m not a fan of him, but have huge respect for his recent work ethic, dedication and performance.

I’d like to see Shaw win worlds this year though, as that will keep Thor pushing on performance wise.

Even the events in Thor's previous comps suit his build-up...so max log at Europe's, frame carry no straps at Arnold's, deadlift for reps at Europe's, deadlift at Arnold's, stone lift in both comps.

He is then left with loading and truck pull, which he is the best in the world at both.

They are a great set of events for Thor.

Wow.

Wasn't the weight of the stone Big Z dropped on himself in 98 130g?

No lift for Savatinov on Cyr Dumbbell (143kgs)
Martins got 254kgs easy on Steinborn Squat (did a triple)
Bjornsson easily cleared 20'/6.096m on WOB

Did Shaw or Kieliszkowski not attempt the dumbbell?

Correct. No idea why Shaw didn't. Kieliszkowski aggravated his repaired right triceps on axle and he still has torn hands from the frame carry.

Thinking about the comments in this thread about Shaw being past it, or more than 'peaked', I think there is some credible weight to this...

Shaw is a professional, he leaves noting to chance in his quest for glory, and his work ethic is immense. He dedicates his life to this, and everyone in the strongman world always say how prepared, dedicated and driven he is.

Meanwhile, a lot of people have said Thor has always been a bit distracted, or too busy to fully dedicate himself to strongman like Brian Shaw.

Well, Thor seemingly has done that since worlds last year, and the results are coming and improvements being made.

To sum it up, Thor has knuckled down and found the dedication needed, to allow him to go that extra 10... But for Shaw, how can he dig deeper and improve to add to his titles? Does he have an extra few percent to add?

Thor has defo improved massive with new coaching and Stan doing his nutrition but I don't think its that shaw has peaked, he's just made some weird mistakes that were nothing to do with strength. The only difference I can think of is he's a dad these days, obviously that can make all the difference in the world.

If he knew there was a time limit on squats and noticed what was happening with the front wheels on the plane pull, he would have won worlds even with a torn hamstring last year. The same can be said for the grip top and the Arnold's. These are silly and rather weird mistakes for his kind of approach to competitions but they still are nothing to do with ability. Also something to note is he's torn his hamstring a few times deadlifting now so that might be effecting his training for it. Sometimes its the injuries that make it so you can't improve.

Shaw will nail that stone next year.

His performance was still good...deadlift, frame and axle were all good.
