If the BDFPA is anything like BWLA then any membership you take out Nov/Dec this year will be for the next calendar year i.e. 2008...

BDFPA are sometimes very strict about the three month period you have to be a member before you can compete. A real barrier for getting new people in especially in the novice/newbie level.

better check from them as soon as possible mate, to avoid disappointment!

as far as im aware the three months is in relation to claiming records, as i wasnt a member for 3 months before i competed, and they do one off passes, you have to be a member for three months before you can lift in a national competition though

aha ok, its just that when Olly asked to do the strongman comp they said flat out no because he was not a member and it was less than 2 months to the comp.

Might be regional differences at play?

thanks Carl, will join both then

slightly off topic, does anyone know any powerlifting gyms in Wigan

I currently train at Cats gym in Orrell, but trained as a BB in past and would like some pointers on technique etc

have never actually done 1RM on any of 3 lifts as always trained as a BB (for ten years)

just ease myself in and currently am doing:

SQ: 140 (5x5) Bench: 130 (5x5) Deadlift: 150 (5x5)

I will 1RM in next few weeks and put in sig

looking forward to start competeing, from what i gather, everyone is really friendly and helpful at meets

good stuff mate, bench looks high in comparison to others (or the others low - depending on your point of view, lol!). Good base there.

if you are looking to hit a comp in january already, might be good to start planning how you ramp it all up and so on. Loads of folk on these forums who can give ideas about that.

Do you know where the comp is? Will probably come to watch it since it is the NW divisionals.

You join from jan 1st full 27.50 yearly, student 17.50 yearly, oct-dec 10.00, if you are a member of a BDFPA club 10.00 yearly. The organiser of the nw is les pilling, great bloke give him a call tell him you want to enter, he will put your name down. I'll be there with a couple of my potential ed coans, maybe the golden oldie too, so we will have the craic..now get liftingHappy
