Obviously strongman has evolved over the years. More so over the last decade.

When strong man first began, you had athletes from various strength backgrounds compete against one another. Most of these men were specialists in different areas

Nowadays strongmen are well rounded and do more event training from scratch. It is similar to mma, that the athletes will have to be good at all events to succeed.

Back to the original question. Everyone will choose big Z (rightly so, he has won everything over a number of years and broke countless records) but I for one, would loved to have seen Kaz around today. His power was well ahead of his time.

The reason I started this thread was because, I was sitting watching WSM 1980 and couldn't believe the intensity of Kazmier. He was seriously strong and was near impossible to beat in static power.

Now I understand why there are still those who believe he is the strongest ever.

In todays era with modern advances, you would have to think he would be right up there with Big Z.

Big Respect to Kaz, he was a phenomenal strength athlete.

Oh this is not a Big Z thrashing thread.

Just now I understand how strong Kaz really was. Seen him in video before but never appreciated how intense he was.

He was an animal.

for sure

but he wasnt that consistant and progressive trough the years
peaked very early

maybe with modern training and drugs would have achieved unthinkable things
we will never know

I don't know why people when talking about athletes from past decades always mention modern advancements (steroids and what not) as the reason why today's athletes are performing better.
I would argue just the opposite.
Back then, it was mostly pharmaceutical grade, today it's mostly mixed in a tub in someone's basement.
Sure, today's pharmaceutical stuff is probably better than that of 20-30 years ago, but how many athletes do really have access to that?
I would imagine that has a huge impact.
I could be way off, but talking to some older athletes (mostly oly weightlifters and throwers) I came to the conclusion that today's gear is mostly crap.

Sorry for the off topic.

On topic:

It depends how well Kaz could adapt to modern strongman. Maybe he could never get the conditioning up to today's standard without loosing too much static strength in the process.

Could Kaz be king again...

No, well not if Jon Pal Signmarson were still alive anyhow... he'd stop him

However, Kaz was amazing statically and had genetics to die for. But for me anyhow, Jon Pal had a level of power beyond all the others...Will Power
