Need a bit of consumer advice.

I bank with Hslifax, and they are f**king s**t. Nothing is ever easy, everything is a problem. That includes in their branches, online or over the phone, and I've finally had enough. Today's example being that their online service wont let me transfer money, instead telling me to phone, when I phone they wont let me do it because I dont know my date of birth. (which of course I do, they clearly have the wrong one despite me banking with them for 24 years). They also claim that my mobile number is wrong desptie them using it to text me... I suggested going in to branch with my passport and they said that I would be charged for the privilege.

Both my parents keep telling me to change to Barclays citing never having had problems in 40 years with them.

Who do you bank with and would you recommend them?

f**k Halifax, they're s**t, as are lloyds, nationwide (biggest bunch of c**ts), IF (actually bigger bunch of c**ts and owned by Halifax)

I'd go with First Direct or summat like that, go to www.moneysavingexpert.com it'll tell you best bank to go for

Natwest. Online banking is very good with them. If you only have a basic ( free) account you can only use their own ATM's which is a pain. I gave in and moved onto paying a tenner a month account fee but I get mobile phone and travel insurance with that along with use of any ATM and some other benefits which currently escape me. The mobile insurance has 'saved' me £7 so I'm only paying three quid for the other stuff.

why can't you use other ATMs? I've never had that madness.

I bank with NatWest and have never been charged for using other banks cash machines, apart from when it's those small ATM's which charge everyone. Confused

I've never really had any problems with NatWest so certainly wouldn't advice that you DON'T go with them, however, I'm not saying that they are good enough that I'd actually recommend them either.

I didn't get charged for using other ATM's, I just couldn't. No other financial institue will have me anyway so I'm stuck with Natwest for now anyway.

First Direct are awesome - genuinely not like any other bank - real people who speak English as a first language pick up the phone with very little to zero hanging on , they seem to want to help without exception.

I get a text weekly with my balance, arrange anything I need over the phone (overdraft, standing orders)

Highly recommended - switching from Barclays to them was a doodle too

Bank with Natwest. £16 a month account - free tastecard, car breakdown cover, mobile phone & travel insurance. Plus a load of other s**t.

Can't say one bad word about my time with them.

Cheers guys. Seems like Barclays, Natwest and First Direct are decent enough.
