All the best for BSM! I'm going to watch, looking forward to seeing you and Tom really getting inbetween the big boys. I think they'll have some shocks.

Britains Strongest Man 2017

So, the big day! Arrived early to the dome and one of the first people I saw was Kaz, that was a cool moment. Said hello to all the guys and relaxed and took it all in.

Event 1: Shield carry 200kg

I had been training this as hard as I have trained anything in my life so I was hoping to improve on my previous poor showings in carrying events. The shield was even bigger than I expected however so I was a tad worried. Luke and Phil were out first and when Phil who is a good carrier didn't make a length I knew it would be tough. I was out with Pa, I picked it up and could tell it was going to slip down soon so went off at full speed, near the order length it was sliding down my forearms and after the turn was in the crook of my wrists but I was aiming for 40m I heard Pa drop and just carried on grinding with the shield in my fingertips at this point. Finally dropped at 36m which held out for 5th place so a good start.

Event 2: Yoke walk 450kg
Pretty sure it was closer to 400 than 450 but either way I was up against Loz and I'd never had a great result at yoke so this was an acid test! Picked it up and it felt so light, got into my rhythm well and Loz going ahead just helped me accelerate. Managed the run in 13.7 seconds so didn't get embarrassed against Shahlaei. 5th place just behind Hix and Bish.

Event 3: deadlift 350kg for reps
This was a big one, early guys struggled and then I was out with Hix, I pulled the first one pretty comfortably then had a little break and hitched the second one out but couldn't manage a third. This needs to improve massively. Tied 8th place

Event 4: Safe press 150kg for reps
Pressing has been going brilliantly so I was very confident for this one, unfortunately the height of the bar was higher than I expected and I couldn't get full leg drive, managed to mong 2 reps up but that was it. Absolutely wounded. 7th/8th place

Event 5: forward hold 30kg
Needed big points here and I wasn't sure how I would do, was out early with Bish who I assumed would struggle on this event. He dropped around 30 seconds and I really dug in and made it to 50 seconds. 3rd place 0.5 seconds behind Loz

Event 6: stones 100-180
Was sat in 4th but it was tight, was out against Hix so i wanted to beat him. He was ahead on the first 3 so I rushed the 4th and it slipped off the platform, lifted it again and it slipped again, got it up a 3rd time and it rolled off. Felt like being swallowed up by the earth. 11th place.

Dropped to 8th overall, I was happy with my strength levels however. I know with my best performance I'll be able to make it to worlds. The crowd was great and it was brilliant to be around all the guys and have a look at the standard at the top level. I'm going to chill out now, I trained today but my nervous system is still dead so I'm going to be sensible getting back to training.
