Training for this comp went perfectly. I didn't miss a rep from my program and I felt strong knowing I was going to pb in this comp. This was going to be the day I go over 700.

On Monday night, 6 days before comp I injured my oblique on a light 180 squat. It was agony and I'd say I have a reasonably high pain threshold. This along with the ongoing shoulder I've had since February resulting in my only being able to close grip made me ponder about pulling out of the comp on quite a few occasions this week. I felt strong but I didn't know if my body would hold together.

With hundreds of pounds spent on the physio this week I decided to compete as I'd done all the hard work.

I weighed in the day before at 98.05kg to lift in the 100kgg juniors.

Come morning of the comp and I loaded up on more painkillers than I've ever taken in my life and headed to the venue.

Squat

Warmed up to 225kg in sleeves. Painful but manageable.

Squat 1 - 257.5kg ✔️ - felt light on my back but brought the pain back
Squat 2 - 267.5kg ✔️ - all time pb but pain by now was unreal. Carried on regardless
Squat 3 - 272.5kg ✖️ Squatted done but deemed as high. I disagree and am still going to class it as my pb

Bench

Warmed up to 150kg easy

Bench 1 - 155kg ✔️ Easy
Bench 2 - 165kg ✔️
Bench 3 - 172.5kg ✔️ Comp pb. Most I've pressed this year

Deadlift

Warmed up to 240kg. Easy but oblique pain was overwhelming. Dropped opener from 260 to 250 to make sure

Dead 1 - 250kg ✔️ By this point I was wondering if I was doing any substantial damage to my body but decided the damage was done and to do the last 2. I could ever get my belt on by myself.
Dead 2 - 260kg ✔️ Worst pain I've ever felt in my life
Dead 3 - 270kg ✔️ Comp pb

The only way I can describe the pain is like a knife being put into you and then twisted (although that's never happened to me lol)

So overall I totalled 710kg with room to spare when I'm fully fit which is a nice feeling. I took 2nd place behind Sam boys who's a freak. When the pain eliviates a bit I'll be very pleased but at the moment I'm in a real lot of pain. I'll be giving myself as long as I need off the gym until this pain completely goes as I'd not like to ever experience that pain ever again.

Anyway onwards and upwards to the next one. Video will be up later

Well done, some excellent lifting through adversity and pain. Judging was a lot stricter this year but a bit inconsistent at times. 272.5kg squat vid on IG looked absolutely fine to me.

same thing with my 205 bench - 2 reds can't see what problem was

imagine running 2 platforms with so many lifters though is difficult to get every call right.

Thanks Matthew. Certainly a lot of positives to take away and hopefully next time injury free, quite a few more kilos on the platform.

I agree, I think my 272.5 was in, hence me taking it as my training pb lol.

Also regards your 205 bench, looks good to me. Only thing maybe your arse coming up? If not I can't see what else

Absolutely excellent lifting Rob, and massive respect for going through all that without giving up. Youve earned your rest

Thanks jack! Truth be told I'd rather not be injured and have to rest haha. 1 weeks rest so far and I'm already bored.

possibly, i certainly need to work on flexibility to sort this leg drive out.
get my feet back and quads angled down '>'-shape to stop this risk.

I used to have a big problem with arse coming up. I notice you bench on your toes, as I used to. I changed this to flat footed and legs wide apart from the bench and I have no problem anymore.

Yeah 282.5kg is my pb still. 270 is my comp pb. I think I have a pb there but I will save the attempt until after comp now which is 23rd April. In comp 272.5 will be my second lift for a comp pb and then I'll go from there.

Regarding the body weight I don't class myself as being in a weight class. I just weigh what I weigh haha. I would never do a cut where I felt it would hinder my performance unless I was going for a recrod. The heaviest I've weighed in this build up is 102kg. Yesterday before that deadlift I was 99.6kg so I'll be in the 100s for next comp
