Tom, Gary Mitchell 300 squat, 165 bench, 275 deadlift, 740 total. Second place in the 100kg class, 15kg behind Steve Keenan.

The 300 squat was an absolute beauty, and he got all nine lifts in. Very professional job.

Great. Thanks Baz.

I chatted with GM at the gym and spotted him on some big squats. I think I said I'd try to help him with his bench if he helped me with the other two, but I are been mostly training at Sunbury since I spoke to him, so it's not happened yet.

Glad that good old Garry did well, He's always very technical and professional when its show time. He seemed very happy when I spoke to him earlier.

Bob Sadler 3rd at 125 behind winner Brian Lee and second Chris Woodhead.
Bob did 270-180-265=715. Couldn't pull the 285 needed to get ahead of Chris Woodhead (as I figured!!!)

I see the results are getting entered onto the GBPF website as I type, so I needn't ask too many more questions!

Well done to all who lifted, I came down to watch and hopefully meet a few experienced guys, but I had my young son with me. We ended up walking through the warm up area and watching through the doorway! I only saw one lift, as when he started shouting and psyching up it scared my son, he said he wanted to sit in the car...so we had to leave (he is only 3, poor lad!)

However he did say that when he's a grown up man he wants to be a powerlifter, so that's encouraging!!

I think it's fair to say the whole weekend can be hailed as a success for the NW in our first national event. I hope we set a benchmark for the standard of events the GBPF should be putting on. I'm hugely proud of the effort the whole team put in, so many of the officials praised the platform team for their hard work and professionalism throughout the weekend. There were a great number of people who were involved in setting this whole event up who deserve recognition in addition to those already mentioned: Fred McKenzie for the loan of all the official kit, Jim, Sue and Simon and all the staff at Intershape for transfering the warm up kit and set up on friday night, all those who helped the clearout operation,Shaun for the use of his van, Leah who ran an excellent and accurate scoreboard, Anthony for the sound system, Lisa for providing excellent officials lunches. Martin and Gavin for their usual atmosphere generating announcing. Thanks to all the officials and referees especially Fred Sterry for his guidance.
I must say an extra special thank you to Joe and Andy for working so hard throughout the whole weekend which included two trips to Ashington for an ill Joe, incredible commitment.
I hope I've not forgotten anyone!
Bryn
