slow_lift_joe | Is sugar at the root of all disease and bad health ? | 17-05-2017 @ 21:37
Interesting Member 6186, 245 posts | I am going to root through all the past threads on nutrition, as I need to review my diet and remove some serious belly fat and lean up. The support on here and the back catalogue is superb so I will review with interest. My first issue is SUGAR, I love it. Cakes, Chocolate, Biscuits, Flapjacks, Bars, Wine Gums etc. Lots of reports, books are stating that sugar contributes to poor health. No real surprise but in modest amounts it should be okay ? Do I go Apples, Pears and Oranges to replace the bad sugar, or is all sugar bad news, sweeteners in whey and sports drinks also bad news ? Not that I buy these because I do not at the moment, but they could help if I give up the Choc Bars etc, I replace Choc Bars with a Whey Choc Drink ? So before I go cold turkey on the cakes/choc bars etc ? Any advice would be welcome ?

I haven't studied nutrition for about ten years, so I'd appreciate an expert confirming this or telling me if I'm incorrect.

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22043 posts | I shudder when I think of my colossal sugar intake since childhood, but I think I've come out of it quite well health wise. I've recently cut down and now if I have a little sugar binge it makes me feel tired. Definitely feel better without it.

‘downsizing’ Member 5704, 3221 posts SQ 280, BP 210, DL 320810.0 kgs @ 96.3kgs UnEq | it's not evil, just makes it easier to over-consume calories and gain fat. fat is the big evil.. too much of that and you have ever increasing insulin resistance, lowered test (from excess aromatase activity producing more estrogen to suppress HTPA function) and eventually the pancreas becomes overwhelmed and you get type 2 diabetes, where no amount of endogenous insulin can lower blood sugar effectively.

Interesting Member 6186, 245 posts | No fruit at all ? Okay give me a good general example of a good day of clean eating :- Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Meal - Snacks. I was thinking :- Breakfast Oats, scoop of whey, maybe eggs. Lunch :- Chicken Brown Rice & some broccoli. Snack :- Unsalted nuts, some fruit ? Evening Meal :- Meat or Fish sweet potato & vegetables. Supplement :- Whey protein. Good Multi Vitamin. Fish Oil. One Cheat Day in the seven days ? - Or a strict No Alcohol for the whole period. That would be it for about 12 weeks for a gauge on weight loss ? Training 3 to 4 days due to my driving job.

My asshole is not watertight. Member 2926, 6050 posts SQ 217.5, BP 107.5, DL 225550.0 kgs @ 86kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 19.05.2017 @ 11:06 AM by slimsim Knock the s**t out! The foods you mention that you eat are all calorie dense and nutrient sparse so if you did stop eating them and replaced them with natural foods such as fruits then the chances are your calorie intake will reduce massively and you'll lose weight.Chances are that you'll also lose the will to live after a few weeks as you're no longer eating the stuff you like! Why not change nothing for a week and keep a 100% honest food diary? At the end of the day this isn't going to cause too much to happen that's bad and will give you a brilliant overview of exactly what is going into your body (include EVERYTHING, both food and drink). From there it's easier to see what changes you make which will be both realistic and achievable.

Interesting Member 6186, 245 posts | Thanks Everyone. I eat veg and good stuff mainly. But eat too much biscuits and chocolate, my snacks are the issue not the meals. What I need is a slow decrease of crap. But keep the odd treat to keep sane. Is Whey Chocolate Protein a good snack replacement, never really bothered with a protein shake ? I make my own shakes/smoothies. Are the branded Whey Powders any good or full of chemical sweeteners and loaded with rubbish ?
