Thurs 7th Feb 2013

Deadlifts
doh
10 x 52.5kg
6 x 92.5kg
4 x 132.5kg

mixed grip
1 x 172.5kg
1 x 182.5kg
1 x 192.5kg
1 x 202.5kg pb for strapless
Grip was solid on the last rep, could've easily pulled more if my back wasn't so tired.

bw chin ups
one arm lat pull downs
seated rows

One arm deads
3 x 57.5kg L&R
3 x 62.5kg L&R
2 x 72.5kg L&R
1 x 77.5kg L&R
Grip was shot after the last one so this was def my max.

lat push downs
horizontal bicep curls

Rack pulls
mixed grip
10 x 100kg
6 x 140kg
4 x 180kg
2 x 220kg

Grip burning on this so again at my limit.

Back feels completely healed now so looking forward to deadlifting 220kg+ in the comp.

9th Feb 2013

Log lift (1 clean the then all jerked)
5 x 40kg
5 x 40kg
5 x 50kg
4 x 60kg
3 x 70kg
1 x 75kg
1 x 80kg
1 x 80kg
1 x 85kg
1 x 90kg (pb with fat log)
Really pleased with this. First time doing jerks and got the hang of it eventually. The 90kg was easier than both the 80kg lifts. Think the trick is to do the jerk part asap after the clean to save energy. Also need to point the toes out slightly to allow a more vertical dip.

Farmer's Walk
15m x 57.5kg ~ 10 seconds
15m x 77.5kg ~ 10 seconds
15m x 97.5kg ~ 10 seconds
12m x 117.5kg ~ 20 seconds
Grip not quite there but still pleased to get it moving reasonably fast.

Little play on the WSM style squats.

Are You Winning? U90kg comp
8 U90kg competitors and 1 guest lifter.

Event 1 - Max log (3 attempts each)
Opened at 80kg which I got easy enough. Moved up to 90kg which is a joint pb but couldn't get it on the first go. Went for it again with my last lift and it was easy. Shame I missed it first time as would've liked to go for a pb 95kg.

7th place

180kg squat to platform for reps
First lift took nice and slow to judge depth. Second lift went a lot faster down and tried to bounce it a lot but it was hard. 3rd lift went even faster and it was a real struggle. Had no commitment on the 4th lift and failed. Reaslised afterwards I'd forgotten to take my shoes off, may have gained an extra half point here.

7th place

120kg Farmer's Walk (15m drop and turn 15m back)
Wanted to do the 1st 15m in one go. Set off fast but grip gave way so easily. Managed to battle through the 1st 15m but didn't bother trying to come back with only 20 seconds left. Wish I'd pick up and just struggle through another few meters which might have got me an extra point. Lesson learnt.

Joint 6th place

Deadlift for reps - starting at 220kg, moving up 20kg after every 3rd rep
Realised using 25kg plates the deadlift was slightly higher than regular height so wanted to get 3 with 220kg and 3 with 240kg. First 3 reps went up fast and easy. Had a 10 second pause to get ready for the 240kg as I knew it was going to be tough. Got it a few inches off the floor then my back pulled again (recurring injury from a month ago). Shame but nothing I could do on this one.

Joint 5th place

Avoiding rolling before lifting would've saved a few seconds and possible gained me a place or two (as the reps were timed).

Loading race - 75kg sack, 75kg barrell, 85kg sack, 85kg barrel, 95kg sack, 105kg barrell
Plan was to go nice and steady and hopefully get 5 in the time. Picked the sack up and went like a steam train. After 2 runs I was gassed. 2nd sack was still fast'ish but had to pause before picking up 2nd barrell and then was very slow walking it down. Couldn't even pick up the 3rd sack. Should I have started off lower? I think 2 people managed 5 and the rest only 4 so probably my speed gained my some places but 5 would've secured my 3rd place.

4th place

Joint 6th place overall. Not bad given my back and a few lessons learnt on the way.

Videos to follow.

Cheers mate yeah standard was well high. Thought I'd do well in the medley but everyone fit as well as strong. Much training needed if I'm to compete at this level. I'll look out for you at future comps.

Dunno tbh. Not sure whether to stick at this weight and try the ESM southern qualifier or eat normally and train for next year's u105kg season. I'm much happier at that weight as I find eating right hard.

Either way I've got to get stronger though.

How about you?

My origanal plan was 105's as there was no u90s in wales at first, but phil who was at the comp encouraged me to do u90,and am glad he did..
Found the eating hard at first but now its second nature although I do have my days were I'll binge lol...
Do what you think is right for you mate, strength will come what ever u decide to do..and good luck...
Next for me is royal counties then welsh u90...

Yeah I should be at royal counties too. Hopefully my back will be sorted by then and I'll be able to push you guys a bit in the deadlifting at least.
