Lunch Time Conditioning

Glute Activation
x 3 minutes

I spent some time coaching a colleague on chin ups and she managed to get her first one. Then bashed out 5 more (singles). That's 2 women I've coached to their first chin up.

Burpees x 10
Broad Jumps x 10
Tuck Jumps x 10
Sprint 50m
Walk Back

5 Circuits

50 burpees is becoming the norm these days for a conditioning circuit. That doesn't mean they are getting easier though. I can fight for longer now so this conditioning work is doing it's job.

Happy with today, my squat was borderline PB which isn't bad considering I haven't been training it. A few weeks of dedicated effort and this number should start to rise.

Solid work as ever mate, quick question if you could pick only one would you go for a trap bar or a safety squat bar? Am considering picking one up but can't afford both.

Cheers Jon. They're both good bars and well worth the investment. If I had to pick I'd choose the trap bar. Depends what you want from it. I find the trap bar hits my legs harder than other DL variants. The SSB hits my back and abs harder than a squat. From what I've heard the SSB has the most carryover to other lifts. Hope that helps.

Ha ha cheers mate, it is pretty nasty. Conditioning is certainly helping but I don't make any progress unless I really push hard. It's taken weeks but I'm starting to see the benefit at KM. I can now use my power for much longer. I'm also used as an assistant to demo the drills to the rest of the class so I must be getting better.

That is some mighty fine pressing there mate, good decision to listen to the little voice!!
Good trap bar lifting too, plenty of reps with a good weight and wise decision stopping before form breaks down.

Conditioning work looks good, well actually looks horrid, but I imagine it will be doing you a lot of good.

Cheers lads. Conditioning is awful, I hate it with a passion. It is giving result though and strength levels are coping well. It was a concern that strength would suffer of I upped my conditioning. I've still got a fair tub of jelly around the midsection but it's not quite as wobbly these days.

My goals are; to be able to qualify for GBPF finals (in terms of weight, I'm no powerlifter and don't intend to be) while maintaining the agility and conditioning of a much smaller athlete.

It's working well so far. On Wednesday at KM the summary drill had to completed in under 2 minutes and involved a combination of strikes then 5 sprawl, another combo, 4 sprawls, another combo etc down to zero. I finished within 30 seconds and managed good powerful strikes the entire time. This is exactly where I want to be.

I didn't get to lift as my three year old woke up and wanted to sleep with me hugging him. these times will be over before I know it so I decided to enjoy it while it lasts and hugged him instead. It was a good choice.

Lunch Time conditioning

The usually mobility and agility stuff plus a countless hip thrusts.

Burpees x 30 seconds
Jumping Jacks x 30 seconds
Split Jumps x 30 seconds
Burpees x 30 seconds
Jumping Jacks x 30 seconds
Mountain climbers x 30 seconds

Rest x 30 seconds

5 Circuits.

Doing this circuit made me question my life choices, it was horrid. I did manage to keep pace with the guy I was doing it with and he's a full 7st lighter. Skinny little runt.
