Friday 26th January 2018

First attempt at some viking cardio today. It wasn't pretty.

A1 Yoke Walk
95kg x 40m (Drop and turn at 20m)
125kg x 40m (Drop and turn at 20m) --That's heavy enough for today, it's "cardio" not strongman.
125kg x 40m (Drop and turn at 20m)
125kg x 40m (Drop and turn at 20m) --On my hands ans knees when I put this down. If I'd eaten before I went out it would have come out here.

A2 Dips
x 10 reps
x 10 reps
x 10 reps --Quit dips at this point, almost vomited.

A3 Chin Ups
x 3 reps
x 2 reps --Ditched at this point, too much fatigue. I'm also out of practice so I need to work on these while fresh.

So I progressively dropped stuff as the circuit developed. I rested ~60 seconds between circuits and this was not enough (but part of the goal). Nausea mounted with lift. Despite the doom and gloom recorded here I'm actually very pleased with how today went. A few lessons learned but I wanted this to be hard and it was.

That's what I'm going for buddy. I want to have my strength available to me when I'm under heavy fatigue. One of issue while sparring is I start off strong but at the end of the session as I tire that strength drops to almost nothing. Regular cardio is of no interest to me but this stuff is fun in a disgusting sort of way.

Tuesday 30th January 2018

Well yesterday was shall we say interesting. Started the day by getting ready to go out training. Then my youngest woke up early so I had to stay and take care of him. It turns out he has croup so he had to stay home from pre-school. Then the Mrs got a migraine. On the way home from work I was informed of a security breach so I had to skip KM and deal with that. Oh and my exhaust fell off on the way home.

Fingers crossed that's all the negative things out of the way.

Loads of band work to warm up

A1 Dead Press
bar x 10 reps
60kg x 6 reps
70kg x 6 reps
80kg x 6 reps

A2 Deadlift
--Hook Grip
70kg x 3 reps
120kg x 3 reps
160kg x 3 reps
200kg x 3 reps
230kg x 1 rep

Guts dropped at this point so I had to abandon. I will view this week as a deload given the difficulties thus fart encountered. However there are some positives: I have a KM seminar on Saturday so a deload is sensible as I'll be fresher. The band work was awesome. I probably did ~300 reps of random stuff but it got me all nice and warm. My joints felt good and every lift just felt right. My upper back was pumped and activated. This is a real winner.

All seems bad at the time but it's small stuff really. Give it a week and all will be forgotten. No point getting all bent out of shape over stuff like this, it happens. Would just be nice if it wasn't all on the same day.

Up all night with the youngest, went to sleep at 4am, I thought it unwise to get up at 5am and train.

If I manage to get out tomorrow I'm not sure what to do. Perhaps Squats and press against bands.

Well I got some work in at least. I Got a few more bands in the January sales so now I have a selection at work. That means I can hit some band reps during lunch. I've been doing that a lot thus week. Quite enjoyable actually.

Yesterday was awesome and easily the best Rory Miller event so far. It challenged me both mentally and physically buy was great fun at the same time. We worked a ton of sensitivity drills which culminated is fighting blindfolded. Providing some form of contact is maintained this was surprisingly easy. It was very much a case of forgetting the training and letting the thinking part of my brain turn off. My instincts and reflexes took care of the rest.
