^For some reason I imagined this little exchange leading onto sex, but possibly not with Paul's injury.

No offence, but I'd rather not picture that.

I'm sure I'd be jealous of your dimensions.

Earlier were you comparing your training style to Ed Hall’s? That’s interesting...

Yeah, he basically trains as a bodybuilder 90% of the time, uses a lot of machines and not just the regular free weights a lot stick to. He does pressing with and without bands, does high rep shorter range pressing not locking out, does heavy side laterals same swinging form etc He body builds, eats a s**t ton then does the events of up coming comps he has when he's in prep. That's pretty much how I train. You can say 'but you don't train deadlifts off the floor' or whatever, yes, because I've not had them in a comp, ever. If I did I would. I also use some stuff Brian shaw does, George leeman etc other stuff I thought of / think of myself. It's always evolving but that basic idea is bodybuilding for every muscle, eat a ton, then when comp comes round taylor to the events / train them, use the new size you put on to get a bigger peak.

I also believe in base building with other similar lifts rather than just keeping trying to improve the same lift. For example the next cycle as I've said I'm going to push trap bar deads try get 400kg, these are good for leg drive and power off the floor, also going to push rdls try get 300kg x 20, those are good power from below to above knee, will also do a ton of upper back and glute work for lockout. After this hopefully I've either not found a comp or found one with deadlift and will then do a cycle of regular deadlifts. I can never continually make deadlift progress forever, after several weeks progress basically stops, so by building that base before I'm essentially allowing a much higher peak. Kind of like jumping off a platform vs off the floor, of course you will get higher off the platform because you are already higher up to begin with. Also this in turn allows me to be strong in all deadlift heights due to the rdls, along with side handle deadlifts from the trap bar, plus I'll have gained a bunch of muscle doing the high rep rdls and bodybuilding stuff for upper back etc Most people just think I'll better my deadlift by starting with x% and finishing at 105% etc that's not how my brain works, I put a lot more thought in to it.

Do you have any other clients Paul?

The great thing about this conversation is if you have enough success with enough people, your nay-sayers will shut up.

There's a lot of unknowns and untested (and, practically speaking, untestable) hypothesis concerning strength training out there. So maybe you're right about a lot of stuff, who knows?

Hopefully you can find a good number clients and build some evidence for the efficacy of your methods.

(One or two success stories is evidence of virtually nothing though, obviously).
