Looking to get some really good quality scales for our works gym.I'm thinking mechanical rather than digital and they really need to be robust because A) we have some morbidly obese f**kers on our site who might get on and B) they will no doubt be treated with zero respect by everyone else.

a cheap way is to buy a set of normal scales then take a 25kg plate to a scrapers and let them tell you exactly how heavy it is now you have a crude means of calibrating your normal scales so you can +- whatever you need to

Cheers Pete , they look quite decent and robust. Was thinking something a bit more statuesque but TBF I'm probably over thinking it.

They can be out by a bigger amount the heavier up you go. Our old ones would be 1-2kg out at 70kg, but 5kg out at 100kg. 8kg out at 115kg etc.

I'd personally go with Salter, or use the ones that charge 20p or so to use so they don't get abused 50 million times a day. Digital ones will need their batteries replacing every couple of weeks due to CONSTANT use by easily pleased idiots who find it novel, and will weigh themselves 3-4 times in one session, often 2-3 times within one minute.
