I have just confirmed with our friends across the border in Yorks and North East that we are holding the "Roses Cup" in Colne on Sat August 2nd at Intershape Gym. We have a good relationship with YNE and this contest between our two regions will strengthen that tie. Entry to this contest is by invitation in the NWC and we will be selecting lifters based on contest performance and/or squad training sessions that we will hold between now and then. The hope is to encourage development of all lifters in the region, this is not just a contest for the best lifters we have, there's a category for everyone. Next year the event will be hosted by YNE.

The Roses Cup
Lancashire vs Yorkshire Powerlifting Match
Rules.

TEAMS
Each team shall comprise of nine lifters.
LIFTERS
Each lifter shall compete in one of the four sections:
Seniors; Masters; Juniors; Women
Lifters in the designated Seniors and Women categories may be of any age. Juniors is taken to mean “Under 23s”.
There shall be
six lifters in the Seniors section (i.e. three from each team)
four lifters in the Masters section (two from each team)
four lifters in the Juniors section (two from each team)
four lifters in the Women’s section (two from each team)
SCORING
Each section shall compete on a Wilks basis. The six (or four) lifters shall achieve a placing according to their Wilks score.
Points shall be awarded dependant on the position attained within each section:
Seniors: winner awarded six points, then decreasing to one point for 6th place.
Other sections: winner awarded four points, then decreasing to one point for 4th place.
The points for each team shall be added together and the team with the higher number of points shall be declared the winner.

That sounds fantastic, and I really like the suggested format. Might I suggest, in the spirit of encouraging new talent, that at least two of the senior places are allocated to lifters who have never represented GB?

exellent plan! Is the scoring system same than at 4 nations?

Bryn can you add the comp to the database at:
http://www.sugdenbarbell.co.uk/index.php/competitions/add

and we will get it published.

The Yorkshire team for the Roses Powerlifting match

The team as selected is:

Seniors:
John Wright (Sheffield)
Ben Akoto (Leeds)
Danny Boyle (Doncaster)

Masters:
Martin Cartman (Skipton)
Chris Woodhead (unattached)

Juniors:
Ryan Binner (Skipton)
Louis Beaumont (Wakefield)

Women:
Sue Hollands (Steelman)
Joanna Banks (Gateshead)

Reserves (who will lift):
Andy Westwood (Doncaster)
Mick Claydon (unattached)
Colin Dearden (Skipton)

Standbys
Dave Richardson (Leeds)
Jonathan Dearden (Skipton)

The team coach is Marie Thornton - British Senior Champion, European bronze medallist and Commonwealth record holder. I will be the manager, and I would encourage you to bring along supporters from your club both to support the whole team and to help you and others in the warm-up room.

The Lancs team is
Seniors
Aaron Lohan
Ian Shaw
Paul Morris

Females
Valerie Ritchie
Leah Greene

Masters
Peter Roberts
Wayne Catterall

Juniors
Daniel
Laurence

Reserve
Mark Horrobin

We are still desperate for a couple of Juniors for this contest, I'm waiting to hear back from some of the weightlifters but if anyone knows of a suitable person get in touch. If anybody wants to lift as a reserve also.

The format of the competition means that the result is likely to be close. You will be competing against the other lifters in your section on the bodyweight based Wilks Formula, so there is no need to diet down to your normal weight class, but every lift may make a difference to the whole team.

Looking forward to seeing a few of you there this Saturday, as usual please feel free to come and support this event by spectating or spotting for a few rounds (one or two have offered but We'd appreciate a few more offers of help on the platform). There's good food available again. Lifting starts at 11am.
Don't miss the clash of the counties!

Yorkshire won the title today beating Lancs 31-20
Some good lifting today and some promising new lifters put in their first appearance on the platform.
Bad luck for Aaron and Paul Morris who failed to get a benchpress passed today.
Both our girls put in PB performances and our two juniors made their first totals
A big thankyou to everyone who helped out today, the usual problem of a lack of volunteers to load on the platform meant several people had to be coaxed into doing it so special thanks to Fat Pete,Shaun Wild, LittleA , Carl and whoever else I've forgotten. Thanks to all the officials many of whom travelled from the NE and to Chris on the scorebook, Jim and Joe for managing the team and providing some lifting kit.
There was a good amount of support from Yorks I just hope we can take as many people over the border next year when they host the contest.
