From asda they are £2 each spoke to my local butcher today and he said he would do me 7 for a £10 so works out I'm pretty much getting 2 extra for free

So I finally opened my slow cooker, plan to use it tomorrow. Three speeds, "high", "low" and "warm". It says that high is the normal setting, wanting about 7-8 hours, and says nothing about low. What would I use that for?

I intend to put some chicken thighs, onion, garlic, and stock in tomorrow on high, about 7. It has dire warnings about running dry, so cover by a couple of inches? Then when I get home at 5, throw in some mushrooms and turn it to "low" for three hours while I train.

Sensible? Advice solicited. Fill me with your wisdom.

Im also a novice but

I have low med high

I cook on low for the longest so far, 15hrs with no issues

You dont lookse much water in cooking so id put in what you want out. Surprisingly little liquid is needed

Hmmm. Seeing, eg, http://www.cookuk.co.uk/slow-cooker/slow-cooker-chicken.html makes me wonder if I should actually put it on when I get home and just have 3 hours or so on high?

Rick, yes would recommend the low setting if you're leaving it on all day. We did pork in Cider today, it was very nice. You don't need as much water in it as you would if you were using the oven unless you're using dried ingredients in the recipe, it tends to condense on the lid and drop back into the bowl and of course it's never up to boling temperature.

800g tesco butter basted chicken crown frozen
800g tesco frozen Mediterranean veg
400g tinned haggis

Slow cook veg + chicken for 8 hours, add haggis and cook for further 1-2 hours.

ALL kinds of gainz for 6-7 quid.

Couple questions here.

How big for cooking up 4-5 meals? I don't think I need Thing's 6 litre tank. What is the next one down? Is it 4 litre?

How do the electricity costs compare? For example if it takes 6 hours in the slow cooker vs 2hrs on an electric hob?
