Well, I'm trying to incorporate more and more strongman style activities. Running up and down the stairs with a sandbag seems to tick many of the right boxes. I can feel my abs burn whilst doing it, so my core is getting worked. Obliviously it taxes my arms, and it makes my calves ache the day after, so I think it is taxing my body in a way it is used to.

Safety bar squats

115 X 5
117.5 X 5
117.5 X 5
117.5 X 5

Think these squats were shallower than what I have been doing, which is a good thing, I've been going far too deep.

Db flat bench press

40 kg each db 3 sets of 5.
20 kg each set 1 set of 12.

Sled pulled one way then pushed back. 150 kg (not incl. weight of sled) 4 sets. With one extra additional push.

Nice job on the SSB Squats.

Not tempted into crossfit yet?

They don't let people like me do cross fit. I dress like a tramp and I am too fat. I definitely don't do group exercise. The idea of doing WOD does nothing for me. The idea and prancing about to music does nothing for me either.

Deads (aiming for 200 pull in about 5 weeks time).

162.5 X 3
162.5 X 3
162.5 X 3

Did them mixed grip...should have done doh....I'm capable.

Log press

40 X 5
50 X 5
60 X 4 (struggled with the clean).

Barbell squat...70 kg, 2 sets of 10. More upright than what they used to be...must be all this SSB work.

Sled with 160 kg worth of plates added. Pulled it towards me using rope, then pushed it back to the start. 3 sets of this. Tough work! I bet the rope is 4 inch thick.

Thick bar lat pull down.... 3 sets.

2 sets of db bicep curls...need strong biceps for strongman.

2 sets of tricep rope pull downs 7 extensions, whatever you call them. Waste of time in my opinion.

Safety Bar Squats

120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3

(I'm doing a month cycle to take me up to 130 X 3)

Db presses

30 kg each hand X 10, X 10, X 9 X 7

Sled rope pull 180 kg.... 8 sets. Realised this is probably a good way to tear my biceps.

Thick bar rows ... 3 sets.

Military press 4 sets X 10 reps.

Unhappy Unhappy Unhappy Unhappy Unhappy Unhappy

Had two weeks of training due to life circumstances. Taking time was wasn't my intention, I had just started a strength cycle.

I have physically shrunk and I am much weaker. So the plan is to do some more hypertrophy for at least a month, before starting the strength cycle.

2 weeks away = two months lost.

Never mind, no point fretting about it.

yesterday did some general stuff just to get back into the swing of things...squats, shoulder presses and such.

I find that it only takes a month - at most - to get back into the swing of things; but would caution going off like a bull in a china shop.

Hey Steven. Hope all is well. -Like Dan says, it doesn't take long to get back in to it. -I almost think that the regaining strength bit is the most fun.

Anyway, it's time to start pike fishing soon. I am hoping to go at least once to a place on the river Cam in December where my brother caught a 19lber a few years ago.

Winter is also an excuse for eating lots of excellent food. I usually like to gorge in preparation for winter - a bit like a bear. Will probably take a slightly different approach this year though due to plans for reduced tubbiness.

Thanks to both of you....

I have been away from the gym again, and most of next will I will be unable to train.

I got a session in last night and hopefully will get in another two by next Tuesday.

Last night I did some straight bar squat (low bar..my preferred style).

I did 60 kg X 10, and four sets of 80 kg X 8.

Then did 5 sets of military presses, 3 sets of 10 and two sets of 6.

Then did some pull downs.

Pike Fingers... I've been catching these last few weeks, although it has been a bit tough.

I caught a nice Pike on Saturday, and I also got a double figure pike but it shook the hooks and I lost it.

Went to gym again.

Still easing myself in. Will be doing some hypertrophy for a while to regain lost muscle mass, which has been quite significant.

Dumbbell flat bench presses, 32.5 kg each arm. 4 sets of between 7-10 reps.

Deadlifts...back seems to have retained some strength, but grip is noticeably weaker. Struggled with DOH grip at 130. Just pratted about really, worked up to 5 singles at 160 kg. Fairly easy.

Barbell rows: 60 X 10, X 10, X 10, X 10, X 8. Easy.

Low-bar squats...60 kg X 10, X 10, X 10, X 8. Easy.

Some pec machine flyes. Not done these for years.

Did some dumbbell curls even though they make me feel like a complete idiot

Did some triceps push-down thingybobs even though they are bloody ridiculous.

Was still full of beans but went home anyway because there is no point in doing to much.

Good to see you getting a decent session in. When you're just getting back in to it even moderate weights can be quite satisfying.

Do you fish rivers or lakes for pike? I personally prefer rivers just because you never really know what you will find and because they are usually more natural than most lakes.

Yes mate. I will be going to a reservoir this week. I also prefer rivers....much more going on, and more natural as well. I like my local drains a lot.
