Thanks boys.

Saturday 27

Benching a day early as I have friends in town tomorrow. There will be much feeding.

Bench 20x8, 60x5, 80x3, 100x1, 110x1, 120x1, 130xf (just) (all paused), 110x6x2. There were some really good ground-out reps here. The 130 only just missed, but miss it did.

Incline DB Press 45x4,5. Should have been 42.5s for sixes, but they're broken.

Stretch and off to watch Rocky.

Some good work from Ant, who displayed character on a bad day for his deadlifting and benched 127.5x4x3 and some work with 100, just failing a fifth on the first set.

He's a crazy mofo, benched heavy (127.5 for 4s) and did close grips last night!

He trained Sunday (snatch grip deadlifts) and today (various), too. The man is a beast.

Monday 29/1

500m rows 1:41.5 PB, 2:01.9, 153.8.

First one was very satisfying, and I didn't quite die afterwards. I went into the second one after only five minutes' rest, and wasn't ready. 8 minutes before the third, which was better.

Wide Pulldowns 70x8, 105x6x2.

The person responsible for designing the thick, slippery handles on the Hammer back machines should be kicked in the groin once for every rep that's been compromised by their stupidity. It would take some months.

Wide Seated Rows 112x6x2.

10 minutes on the elliptical, stretching.

I seem to have stopped coughing now. I think the first couple of sprints disturbed parts of my lungs that have not really been used since I was smoking 40+ a day.

If I were Fat Pete, I might celebrate a hard-fought PB on a day not feeling so good by going to Oldham. But I am Fat Rick, so I went to Abdul's instead.

No longer on the bottom of the Sugdenite C2 list Happy.

The gauntlet has been laid down! I will do my best to usurp you on Friday.

Nice work Rick.

Oh - and this made me laugh a lot "But I am Fat Rick, so I went to Abdul's instead."

Always glad to amuse Happy.

As I said when relating this to a colleague today, I didn't really expect to beat your time - though I did hope to get close to it - and I have no doubt that, now that I have, you can go quicker. I'm getting better, but I've got some way to go yet.

I do wonder whether there's much variation between rowers at the Sugden, though.

I'm 6'1", Boar, but it's all in my torso - I have 30" legs (they only just reach the ground) and my arms are so short that if I couldn't bend my back I wouldn't be able to reach my balls. Which is why I spend so much time stretching.

I worked out once that if I was normally proportioned relative to my limbs I'd be about 5'6", and relative to my back I'd be 6'8". And if I had Olly's relative limb length I'd be about 6'11".

Essentially, I'm Britain's tallest dwarf.

Wednesday 31/1

Squat Goblet 30x5, barbell 60x5, 90x5, 110x5x5 (pb). Every set got better, here, as I got more and more solid in my form and my knees loosened up. I seem to be sitting back a little better.

DB press 20x8, 37.5x6x2.

Narrow seated rows 70x8, 112x6, 10. Too easy to label it a PB.

Chins ten singles, varying from "almost a rep" to "just past parallel". I think I could have completed every rep with more knee swing, but on the chin bar I was using there isn't room. Happy with this.

10 minutes on the elliptical, 20 stretching.

Friday 2/2

Week 3 of the Jackson deadlift cycle.

Deadlifts 60x8, 100x3, 140x1, 170x2x4. Probably technically a pb, but far too easy to count. I could have done a lot of these.

Platform deads 100x3, 140x1, 160x1, 175x1 PB but so, so easy. As before, these are from two stacked 25kg plates. This flew up like an empty bar, if anything it was easier than the reps from the floor.

Narrow-grip pulldowns 70x8 to warm up for

Chins (to arms just past parallel, from a decent bar) 3x5. This is definitely a PB of some sort. I feel close to chinning decent reps now. And that's a lot of meat in motion.

Narrow-grip pulldowns 105x6, 8 PB.

10 minutes elliptical, 20 stretching. Exceptionally pleasing workout.

Awesome sesh Ricky! We are now tied on our platform PBs so it should be a good bit of competition.

Good day today. Saw Tokar finishing off his billion sets of bench and deadlifts on his 3x3s, Ant was in and running hard, and Rob left just as I arrived. Weird to have a Sunday session without seeing any of the guys arriving around two, though.

Sunday 4/2

Bench 20x8, 60x5, 80x3, 100x1, 110x1, 120x1 (all paused), 130x1, 115x4x2. Forgot to pause the 130, but it went well enough. Very pleased with these; I'm back close to my best now, I think.

Incline DB Press 45x5x2, matching an 11-month-old PB set after hugely less flat bench work. I would probably have had more, but I was using the newest, s**ttest bench, and had trouble on the second set getting into the starting position. Indeed, I bruised my chest a little and almost tore my nipple off, which amused me not at all.

Wide Pulldowns 70x8, 112x6 PB, 8 PB. Nice and easy. Chalked these, which sorted the grip considerably.

Wide Seated Rows 70x8, 119x8x2 PB. It would seem that thrice-weekly lat work is paying off.

Concept 2 500m 2 minutes warmup, 1:55.3.

Two minutes recovery, then 10 minutes on the elliptical, stretching.

This seems to be doing alright at the moment Grin.

Thanks man Happy.

Just looked back over my log. That's only the fifth time (and fourth session) I've ever actually pressed 130, plus the one time I did 135. The last time was on October the 8th. I guess I really am back close to my best, then.
