More a presumption on my part as to when the meet would be, ie similar as last year. I'd compete if it was in dec too.

.. and yes Martin didn't mean that kind of gear Tongue

Sunday's "Fitness Last" Session

Bench
I have had rotar cuff problems in my right shoulder for about 2-3months. Its on the mend and about 95% better. At one point I couldnt bench 40KG for even 1 rep as it just hurt too much. Before I picked up this injury my bench was flying, I was repping 85K for 6, which for me is really good. I have resorted to machine work and high reps for chest in order to keep the stress off the shoulder whilst still working my chest. I was taking Iboprufen and Cissus. I am now including rotar cuff strength work each session which should help recovery and prevent this happening again.

Sunday was the first proper bench session with 3 working sets in about 3 months.

  • DB L-fly 6KG x 10 (to warm up the rotar cuff)
  • Bar x 8 (bench)
  • DB L-fly 8KG x 10
  • 40K x 8 (bench)
  • DB L-fly 8KG x 10
  • 50K x 8 (bench)
  • DB Upright L-fly 6KG x 9
  • 60K x 6 (bench)
  • DB Upright L-fly 8KG x 6
  • 70K x 5 (bench)
  • 80K x 5 (working set bench)
  • 80K x 5 (working set bench)
  • 80K x 5 (working set bench)

Overall really pleased with that especially as I havent benched in ages and I forgot to take my creatine LOL, last 2 reps on each working set was hard and edged up real slowly. The last working set some guy was hanging around and went to put his fingers under the bar to help me up. I just shouted "LEAVE IT PLEASE".

DB Bent Over Rows
  • 34K x 5
  • 38K x 5
  • 40K x 5
  • 42K x 5

Then did some machine chest press, pull ups, calf raise and curls and tricep extensions. I tried some dips but this was niggling my shoulder a little so I stopped.

Thursday's "Purbeck" Session

Squats
Today was I mentally not feeling up for training, also I didnt think I felt physically as prepared as I should have been. Hadnt drunk as much water or eaten enough as I thought I should have. However this had no real bearing on the session

  • 95K x 5
  • 115K x 5
  • 125K x 5 - these felt much better than last week
  • 127.5K x5 - felt strong
  • 130K x 5 - these were tough but felt good

Pretty pleased with squats. Does anyone do 10 rep sets, can high reps help at all. Was thinking of doing them say for a month, to help me push through the 130K barrier.

Deadlifts (using small diameter plates)
  • 147K x 5
  • 159.5K x 5
  • 164.5K x 5
  • 167K x 5 - NEW REPS PB!!, felt like there was more left in the tank too.

Good session overall, pretty pleased

Weighed in today at around 74K before brekki, so weight is good at the moment

Just been looking at what I need to achieve to get my 480K total.

Goals (recalculated
Squat: rep 142.5K x 5 = 160K single
Bench: 87.5K x 5 = 95K single
Deadlift: 182.5K = 225K single

Therefore I need to acheive within 25weeks:
Squat: +12.5K
Bench: +7.5K
Deadlift: + 15.5K

Sunday's "Fitness First" Session

Thought I'd see where I was with 1RM on squats as not done a single in about 6months.

Squats
  • 95K x 5
  • 125K x 2
  • 135K x 1
  • 140K x 1
  • 145K x 1
  • 147.5K x 1 - FAIL

So I have put 5K on my squat, thats not that good for 6months work.

Bench
  • 40K x 8
  • 60K x 7
  • 70K x 5
  • 80K x 5
  • 80K x 6
  • 80K x 6

Good bench session, last 2 sets are up 1 rep which is good. Shoulder less niggly than last week, felt more confident and form was bang on. I will be upping the weight next week. I also preceeded bench with a good amount of rotar cuff work

DB Bent Over Rows
  • 36K x 5
  • 40K x 5
  • 42K x 5
  • 42K x 5

Felt strong here, more weight than last week

I think you can just bench if you want to, or at least there where those doing it at the meet earlier this year.

It's a Dorset Powerlifting comp Ice.

Thanks for comming back on that Iain...Now that I am aware of the possibility of a comp I will gear my training to suit...The date you suggested it may be on is a Tuesday which would be unusual, but as you say its not firm yet
Thanks Paul for use of your space on this
