comps are getting boring, simple as that.
for example winner from each event yesterday was
yoke - 30 seconds
cross carry - 35m
axle dead - 310kg
car deadlift hold - 1 min
stones - 3 reps
4 from 6 implements in the medly
that was the top performance rest of the field:
about 5 no finishes on yoke, 5 over 1 min
about 5 no pick ups on cross, 8 less than 10 metres
only 4 left in after 280 dead
1 no pick up, 12 under 30 seconds
12 no reps on stones, maybe more to do with weather
lots of no reps on medly.
took 5 hours, if i was in the crowd and it had of been a beautiful day id still have been bored s**tless. i was bored s**tless competing in it. the performances may have been hampered by the weather and the standard of athlete over here but it was boring. lots of people came to have a look, not many stayed. family and friends couldnt get away quick enough at the end.

yep, this is my main point, IMO most open comps are no longer FUN, they are however geared to find the biggest strongest guy

I look on here at the u90 and u105 comps, and they look fun as hell, and look like they test other areas that opens don't

To me it's just renaming the inters class and making a fun comp for light opens

If Ben is behind it it'll be a success and I think that it would only be an asset

I agree mainly for 2 reasons. 1. Like Ryan said would give u105's a stepping stone if they wanted to go to open weight. 2. Just like some u80's who would never want to be at u105. Some u105's may want to compete at a heavier weight but not feel like they have to weigh 140kg+ to be competitive (I am fully aware there are exceptions). You would have the huge strength from the open comps and the speed and rep endurance etc from the lighter weight categories. It defiantly sounds exciting!

I reckon it would be good to have an u120 category with weigh in half hour before first event! Would hopefully get more u105s to move toward open comps too?

Hixxy, Colin Jones, Luke Fullbrook etc, all very competitve in open comps at 120

he thing is, you are the first to say that WSM will be won by a 6ft 6+ 180kg+ for the foreseeable future (and I completely agree)

and all the events are greared towards a person of that build

and that filters down to the top open comps in this country

so really you are saying that there is no place for the person between about 110 and 150?

I do - even though I'm a complete hypocrite!!!

Although I'm not decided on the impact to the u105's if you had the u120 categroy. On the one hand it would leave the comp more open to the 'smaller' u105s but on the other hand it may draw some of the best athletes away form it!!!

Sounds like a good idea to me, I'd definitely compete in a u120 comp, and I think it'll bridge the gap between 105's and opens perfectly.

I don't think this is the case at all - granted shaw and terry were massive this year, but big z is 'only 6'2 and loz is as well and they both have a very good chance of winning it!

It would probably see more u90's competing at u105 and more u105's at u120.

Yes - but is it a good thing for the u105 scene? I'm not sure?
