Saturday 30th July.

East Midland Masters - Yardley.

Got to the venue too early I guess, around 09:30 when my weigh-in was at 12. Sat and watched the ladies and the light weights during the morning. Finally weighed in around 12:30 at 113.2Kg. The morning session was dragging somewhat and I never got to the platform for my squats until 3:30PM.

Squats.
Felt really flat warming up.
2 x 5 x 20
5 x 60
5 x 100
3 x 120
1 x 140
1 x 150 Felt really bad.
Went to desk and dropped opener from 170 to 165 at this point.
1 x 160 Real struggle.
Platform.
165 - Three whites but not easy.
170 - Three whites, more comfortable.
175 - Two whites but easiest lift bar far.

Bench.
Warmed up in a rush with:
10 x 20
8 x 60
5 x 80
3 x 100
1 x 100 Paused.
1 x 110 Paused.
All felt comfortable.
Platform.
110 - Three whites.
117.5 - Three whites.
122.5 - Failed around 6 inches off my chest.
I and many others considered the pauses to be rather long, pretty much back to the two second count days! That said they were consistent for everyone.
All bar one of my group failed their last presses...

Deadlift.
Delays between benching and deadlifts caused havoc in the warm up room, just two bars and 18 people trying to warm up, some on heavy weights and some on lighter weights. Consequently warmed up as follows:
5 x 70
5 x 100
3 x 140
1 x 160
1 x 180
The last two singles were spread over 20 minutes.
Platform:
200 Three whites.
210 Three whites.
215 Fail, came up to my knees but saw no point in grinding it out so put it down.

Total 502.5Kg. 2.5kg less than i'd done in the gym during training a week earlier!
Very disappointing. Finished lifting around 6:30PM. Very long day.

Got to get myself up for the AE this Saturday now.

Thought i'd better get straight back on it after competing on Saturday, especially as i'm competing this Saturday as well!
Nine lifters at the Farm tonight, not a bad turnout. It was raining outside which helped to cool down the tin roof!

492.5 in a brief training session. I only managed 502.5 last Saturday.
No idea what to expect this Saturday but will open with 165/110/200 then move onto 175/117.5/210, any third lifts will be a bonus!

UPDATE.

Saturday 6th August. Long day! All England Championships.

At the venue by 08:30AM to help finish setting up the venue. Best part of 70 lifters to get through so hoping that everything ran smoothly and on time as I would be in the last group with the heavies. Especially as I was going on vacation immediately after lifting and was booked onto the 00:16AM Eurotunnel.

Unfortunately everything ran late. Weighed in around 13:20PM 113.5Kg.
Started to warm up around 17:00PM. Finally got to the platform at 18:30PM.

Squat.
Warmed up with:

5 x 70
3 x 110
1 x 130
1 x 140
1 x 150
1 x 160
Platform:
165 - Three whites.
175 - Three whites.
180 - Three whites.
Satisfied with this, 5kg more than the previous Saturday.

Bench.
Rushed warm up.

110 - Three whites.
117.5 - Two whites, ref thought she saw some downward movement!
120 - Three whites.
Satisfied with this, 2.5Kg more than previous Saturday.

200 - Three whites.
210 - Three whites.
Never took a third pull, time was 21:30PM at this point so after informing desk that I was leaving drove home in my kit, quick shower and drove down to Folkestone for 23:45, fortunately the train was late as usual. Got into France then drove through the night, arriving at Chateau Finch for 11:00AM on Sunday. On the beach by 13:00PM. Happy Happy
Now that was a long day!

Satisfied with the 510 total, probably could have pulled another 5 or 7.5Kg with a last pull but we'll never know. Wife would have killed me if we'd missed that train....

Monday 15th August.

First day back at the Farm since the All England. Spent a full week lifting nothing more than beer, wine & cheese.
Seven lifters at the Farm.
Weighed in at 114.80Kg fatter than i'd like.
Blood Sugar - 11.3 higher than i'd like.

Just some easy work to get back under the bar.

Should have mentioned, took first place in the All England.
That's 8 first places and 1 second place in the 9 years that the competition has been run.
Got to thank Phil Frost for that one second place!

Monday 22nd.

Rough session after a very heavy weekend which saw me under the weather for 50% of the time and laying paving slabs for the other 50% of the time.
Just 5 lifters at a very muggy Farm.
Bodyweight 115.9Kg, heavy but expected after a late business lunch at a Toby carvery!
Blood Sugar 9.4, edging on normal.

So bloody humid at the Farm tonight. Lifters were very thin on the ground, just the hardcore Stewart, Forklift and myself, plus lightweight's James & Gordon.

Just 6 lifters at a hot & humid Farm.
Didn't feel up for this today and every set was a grind, probably due to spending the last three days laying paving slabs and chopping down trees!

Blood Sugar 9.1 - Higher than it should be.

Another night with only 6 lifters at the Farm, although we did receive many visitations from potential students (and their mummies) of the college during the evening.
Weight 115.35 - Fat Git.
Blood Sugar 7.8 - Good.

Deadlift.

2 x 150

2 x 177.5
2 x 192.5

2 x 170
Had intended the double at 192.5 to be the top set but according to the Finch formula this equated to a single at 208.5, so as the deadlift was the lift of the month for August and my best this month was 205 I went for the 210, the formula was right, it came up slowly and 212.5 would probably not have!

These are mostly about un-racking and stepping out which for me is always the hardest part. 1/2 squatting 225 - no problem, getting it out of the rack and stepping back - bl**dy awful.
