Hello everyone, Ive been looking at some events for the northern quals and would like to put them out there for discussion, I understand that some will like to keep the same format for all quals to make it balanced, but wsm have diferent events in each group and a different final so just hoping this will work for us?? any sensible and constructive critisism welcome, also weights are to be arranged so please ignore any weight related comments, thanks for reading look forwardto hearing responses

OH Medley
WSM style dbell
Block press
ifsa log
SS dbell
Apollons Axle

Moving event one of below
Giant Farmers like Sadlers and Drag
Hussafelt distance
Giants farmers, yoke, drag Medley like yorkshires
Hercules Hold like worlds (i have a plan)

Deadlift of some sort maybe axle for reps, or silver dollar rising bar

Wagon pull artic and trailer

Stones 110-170 ish to varied heights and maybe heavier as they keep getting stronger lol

Thanks for reading

I might be in a minority here but I don't really like overhead medleys for qualifiers as, I feel, the blokes that have had the most practice on that particular kit (blocks, dumbbells) will have an advantage.

IMHO, whether it's a log or an axle (or even viking) and whether it's for max or for reps, I think that they are a better test of strength as they are less technical.

Just an opinion. I'm sure it will be a great promotion.

Ye I had this discussion with Hixxy and its a purest event, it will look impresive not blokes just holding barrels : \ but does appear boring to Joe public, only other idea is an old event circa 1980's WSM with the hand over hand bail lift on a winch type set up????

I kinda agree with what your saying about block and db. But it is strongman if people want the same kit in every comp then they should do PL.

Do you not think the strongest person will still prevail? Also if the events are up well in advance then there is no excuse for people to not practise a block press for instance flag stones.....ect are very similar.

I had thought of keg toss as its very easy for us to do tbh we have a forklift on site so I can rig something up my only other thought was a rising bar throw like at Highland games

I suggest you put very bland standard events on regular kit for the qualifiers, and at another time do a crazy comp with all your awesome strongman kit for the athletes, make the qualifiers more of a spectator one maybe?

lol tbh I was just about to say I wont be invlolved in a farmers, yoke, deadlift, log, stones comp, no offence to anyone but thats not what me and Gates want to do, we want to offer the best we can and the best most interesting an challenging events for the lads, not the same format every year just 5kg heavier than last year

p.s please continue to comment haha

I like medleys and variety and so on but, at qualifiers, I prefer fairly (boring?) standard events. Just me!

What ever you put up mate will make someones day and ruin someone elses ..

You have to look at the competitors as what they are "Selfish wa**ers" !!!!

Just tell the f**kers what they are doing and to deal with it ! I hope I'm fit for it myself and would just like to say a massive thanks to Ben France who has done a unreal job over the last three years .

You have big boots to fill Gra . I've every faith !

I think you should just keep to the basic, standard events for a qualifier, gives everyone the same oportunity to train events such as farmers, yoke, log, axel, deadlift, stones etc as there are plenty of gyms around that have this kit. Save the crazy different events for the final or another compeition.
