Competed in 3 comps in 4 weeks. 1 was s**t, 2 were good.

Snapped my s**t up.

Lost 35kg off my dead.
Lost 22.5kg off my already s**t OH.
Lost 46kg off my squat.
Moaned about it a lot.
Lost 13kg off my ass.

Learned that my health is my main priority.
Learned that like King Boar, I am now in the wrong place. However, this may have never been the right place...

That's quite a year! Well done Happy

Thanks very much sir
Can I also mention howproud i was to be involved in some amazing strongman comps this year as well, we promoted Scotland's under 105s again along with Scotland's strongest team and both comps where well received
I also MCed some fantastic comps as well, the highlight being the very slick and exciting Scotland's strongest man and Scottish open. I missed doing the mic at the British 105s cause of work and was gutted about that but I have really enjoyed my involvement in strongman this year much safer watching Grin

Not a bad first year really.
Had my first comp at results in March came 4th place lost 3rd by 0.5 point. Then took 3rd at another local comp in some pretty dismal conditions, managing to get joint 1st in the deadlift against some much bigger lads. Came second at northern natural qualifiers u90. Well pleased with that. Then things went downhill, 5th at ssm u90, 9 th at naturals final picking up a couple of injuries and ending on last place in my first open, which perversely I really enjoyed. All in all not that bad. Had some fun and met some great people.

2012 has been a very good year. Firstly I became a dad for the first time in March which is just amazing! Despite this my training has been focussed.

My lifts have all gone up loads, but that's expected as I started from scratch in August 2011. I hit my 3 plate bench which I'm most happy about.

My intention was to start Powerlifting this year but I fell into Strongman around March time and I've done 4 comps since.. placing 20th in my first novice comp (s**te!), 4th in my second (very pleased), 7th in Rotherhams Strongest Man and then only 14th at Salt Ayre.

My focus has switched more to Powerlifting over the past couple of months and I'm trying to get my big 3 lifts up. Did my first comp last week, the GPC Charity Push/Pull where I just missed a PB deadlift but won my catergory (by default!). This sets me a base to build on for 2013!

Goals for 2013 are to pull at least 300kg, hopefully on the platform, and to total 800kg in equipment. Oh and to try and pull big Sumo Grin

Got lighter, injuried but about the same strength so pretty poor

Out of the gym I'm a lot happier so who cares about the above

A good year overall, but not much to report since September.

- Erg PB's galore in Feb-March (including 500m 1:22.7, 2k 6:16.7)

- My first two SM comps in May and June, which were good learning experiences.

- Some default PB's in SM events since this was my first year in the sport.

- PB's in the 3 main lifts in late July, as well as PB's on the front squat, clean, snatch, Zercher squat and whatnot.

- A few additional erg PB's in the fall (100m, 5k), but s**tty 2k attempts.

Next year I'll be up against more ambitious targets, no more noobish PB's to pad the resumé.

Its been a good year for me, In march I came 2nd at the British Bench with 177.5kg. In May I went to my first international the IPF World Bench Press and did 180kg for an 11th Place finish. In August I went to the European championships and did 190kg and just missed 195kg for 11th place. In October at the North West Bench press championships I did 197.5kg, so I am stronger than ever on the bench. Ive not done as much powerlifting this year but my raw squat has improved slighly.

2012 was another good year for lifting, and I competed in March and July.

Log + 23 kg
Squat + 50 kg
Deadlift + 55 kg
Bench + 5 kg

And I'm now strict pressing what I used to push press Grin

Packed on about 6 kilo of bodyweight too

2012 started off well did my first comp on the mainland, shetlander so only done a few local comps.
Qualified for Scotlands Strongest man came 9th and 9th in the final
Won Shetland Strongest man for a second time
Competed at the scottish UK qualifier was a poor performance but got my mug on the TV for the sheild carry
Hit a 290 deadlift and the aim for the year was 300kg which still might happen
Also started pressing for the past couple of months without elbow problems
Meeting all the guys in the comps as well has been great

Competed in Celtic Carnage in February at 22.5st. Really enjoyed the comp with some great competitors in. Finished around mid table roughly but was very happy with the day considering I really buggered up an event which cost me lots of points.

Developed a big problem with my sacrum joint within a week or two of Celtic Carnage and then within a month of that a shoulder injury. Both really stifled progress for me this year with my overhead going backwards and deadlift not moving anywhere.

Competed at Wales' Strongest Man at around 19-19.5st. Had a good day and finished third. Very pleased with the day especially being 3ish stone lighter and also suffering with injuries that really hindered progress.

Only two qualifying places for the UK's were available to the Welsh so I relaxed after competing, didn't really train much, all but stopped supplements of all descriptions, didn't watch my diet and drank a lot as my best mate was staying with me from New Zealand. Got a call saying that I was going to the UK's so that was an offer I couldn't turn down.

The UK's was a great experience and one that I will always be very appreciative of having the opportunity to enjoy so much. A tough start but finished around mid table in the shield out of all 16 competitors. Grip event was a nightmare and only Keith Maher was unfortunate enough to do worse than me! A lot of people were out before or at around 10 seconds so I didn't feel so bad. Naval wrestling was tough but I was disappointed to see only the stuffing I received from Chris Gearing on the google box! After 90 second battle with Johhny Kelly which I was victorious in and then straight after, another 90 second battle with Gary Gardner where although I lost it wasn't by many degrees from the starting mark. The log was tough and very awkward. Disappointed not to have got one rep as it would have seen me make day two. A 160kg - bordering on strict - Log at Celtic Carnage in February seemed like a lifetime ago.

May take some time out and grow and return bigger and stronger. Hernia op is in the pipeline so that may dictate my competition calendar for next year.

Bit of a mixed bag :
Lost 4.5 stone from 20 stone 9 pounds to 16 stone 2 pounds.
Put about a stone back on trying to get some strength back
Got fairly close to my old fat boy PBs - beat the Bench PB but realised the chubb was creeping back on so decided to lose it again.
Lifts seem to increase and decrease with bodyweight.

Have now decided I am happier slim and shaped and looking like I work out rather than people having to ask me !
Just have to learn to be content with being decidedly average strength wise and I'll be happy.
Goals for 2013 are to stay lean, get fitter and try to get stronger - but the "power belly" is definitely NOT coming back. At my age my health and appearance are more important to me than my Gym lifts.
I may be turning into a Bodybuilder Wink

2012 started great came third at the northern qualifier for uksc and had ago at Esm. then it went down hill no focus in training and injuries to my knee and ankle ensued lucky nothing that couldn't be fixed. then got bummed at Yorkshirs

goals wise I improved my axle pressing and squat more than I thought I would. but a deadlift pb is still out of grasp.

and not strength related but I finally got a promotion at work which was a long time coming
