Sounds fantastic rick

La enclume is heavily on my to do list

An old colleagues son works at the french

I went here last night

http://www.thefeathers.net/

A great place. Won best pub a few times. Always great food and the only place that lives up to my high expectations on a Sunday lunch

In the order of me, my lass, my Bro, my mum then dad we had

Starters
Roast teal
Charcuterie board of ham terrine, pheasant liver parfait, rabbit sausage and celeriac coleslaw
Sea trout in a gravleax style
Veg soup
Dad had the same trout

Main.
Rib eye with bernaise
Roast partridge with bread sauce stuffing and roast veg
Casuloet or however it's spelt
Roast brill with buttered greens
Roast woodcock with lentil and bacon

Desert
All the guys had steamed lemon pudding
Sarah steamed marmalade pudding
Mum had a selection of ice cream

Teal was a first for me and woodcock a first for me and my dad

I've never had teal or woodcock. Looks a great place!

It really was the best meal of my life. I am going to go a few times a year, I've promised myself Happy.

Teal to be blunt. Is just like a small duck

Woodcock was quite gamey too like pigeon

It's the sort if place where they were on the menu that night because someone locally had shot them

Fish finger sandwich topped with beans (cooked long with marmite, butter and Worcestershire). Not as good as The French.

Sounds amazing Rick. How much, if you don't mind me asking?

I think it's time to find my way to a new, amazing restaurant.

I think my last truly amazing eat was at Hibiscus (it was awarded its second star between us booking and eating) and that was 5 years ago!

The basic 10-course price is £84 (there's no lunch menu as such); we split a wine flight at £75, and cheese and coffee were extra. All in including a modest tip it came to £140 each (plus £12 in the bar for a house white and the fancy G&T).

Thought of trying Fera?

It's very nice. There was cheddar, tartare sauce, and Branston in the sandwiches too.

I havent, and think if I'm going to spend that much then there are probably 4 or 5 in front of it on my 'list' tbh.

School play followed by a late table at Nick's. I had scallops with Parma ham and white pudding, followed by cod with crayfish and smoked haddock (chips and asparagus with parmesan on the side).

Interesting colours due to reflection of Christmas lights and using HDR to get ax decent low-light shot.

A while ago I "worked" as kitchen porter at a "supper club for supper clubbers" night, and consequently Arepa Arepa Arepa gave me two free tickets for their next night taking over Trove, in Stockport. That night was last night; I was sat with my guest (Louise, with whom I ate at the French) and three well-known food tweeters based within a mile of my house. There was a hot, sweet, boozy welcome drink, a starter of potato, tomato, arepas and chorizo, a tamal (plural tamales, a word I know better), a dessert of sweet cinnamon set custard and salt fried cheese balls. All tasty, interesting, and different.

Lovely night. The same five at my table will all be at Drunken Butcher tonight, which means cab-sharing, which means drink. Merry Christmas Happy.

Starters were so-so, mains decent, but they attempted to double-charge the starters and service was very slow. Which saves on gratuity, anyway. Still a good meal, because a meal with your mates always is.
