Fazc said:Robbo I was lifting twice a week for about 4 months this year, loved it. I did conditioning/cardio stuff on another 4 days of the week. I did the 2-Day version of the Juggernaut Method (TJM), which is a 4 month plan by Chad Wesley Smith, it's waves volume up and down over 4 months and focuses a lot on rep PRs. The other lift of the day was done using 531 or skipped if I felt tired. It basically looked like this:

Sunday - Squats (TJM), Press 531
Wednesday - Bench (TJM, Deadlift 531
Sunday - Deadlift (TJM), Bench 531
Wednesday - Press (TJM), Squat 531

So it went across 2 weeks. You could drop the 531 work and do it all in a week though, no problem. I didn't feel I got s**t from the 531 stuff.

Accessories were minimal. Just stuff I felt I needed for balance like Chins, Dips, Curls, Leg Press. A little lower body stuff on Sundays and a little upper body stuff on Wednesdays.

I felt really good on this, coming into every session I felt strong as f**k.

That looks really good Faz, thanks for the post.

I just took a look at TJM, it's looks interesting, I'm tempted to try it. I was leaning more towards the Russian masters again as it just works so well for me however. But I like trying different things

Good to hear you felt strong training only 2 days a week, I think it could work for me as I work a physical job too and recovery doesn't come easy.

I gave thought something like this may work

Monday
Squat - Russian masters (heavy session)
Bench - Russian masters (light session)
Deads - 60% - speed work (5x3)

Thursday
Squat - Russian masters (light session)
Bench - Russian masters (heavy session)
Deads - top end 3 or 5 (linear progression)

Bonus session at weekend (if I can fit it in)
Weighted dips
Leg press
Barbell rows
Curls (fur the gurls)
Hiit

And also try and get in a liss session somewhere in the week

At least if I don't fit in the bonus session I have managed to get the basics in at least....

DomRedshaw said:with u mentioning overhead pressing and some kind of rows, id do something like:

1st minute = any kind of overhead press
2nd minute = rows or pull ups
3rd minute = rest
repeat 2 more times

better than nothing n adds no more than 10 mins onto your sessions.

Yeah something like that would be good Dom, I used to superset strict/Chins (vertical plane) and bench/rows (horizontal plane)

Monday
Deads
Bench
Squats

Friday
Squats
Bench
Deadlifts.

For variation I'll do beltless and paused squats, close grip benching and a bit of paused or halting deads. Closer to a comp less variation.

I'll fit in some other lifts if I can. Depends on the volume on the main lifts. Sessions can take nearly 3hrs when volume is at its highest

Thanks for posting Iain. Good to know.

It seems, after looking into it in a bit more depth, that a lot of the experienced guys keep it pretty simple.

I'm thinking my sessions may take a good 2 hours+ but would rather commit to 2 solid sessions like that (whilst hopefully feeling a lot fresher than I have been) instead of doing 3-4 half arsed laboured sessions.

I think when you're really busy with work and want to train four times a week, it can quickly slip into a cycle of rushing to the gym, rushing to eat and rushing to work with no time to actually relax and recover. Not a good way to make gains imo.

Cut way back, get your body used to it. I'm back to training four days a week now. But i know when things get busy I have that option to cut back and gains won't slow.

Yeah I agree mate, totally. Looking forward to a couple of nights through the week where I aren't at the gym and can relax (I'm 30 soon, I need my rest) and prep some good food

Oh and get your journal back up and running on here!

I'd love to train more but life's a b**ch. I use the Russian Masters template for much of the stuff I do. Normally repeated volume blocks, then peak for a comp.

I'll be getting an extra session in as of next year. It'll be some extra benching probably.

What do you mean repeated volume blocks Iain? Do you mean you do the 4 week volume phase and then repeat it again straight away?

How would you incorporate deadlifts with the RSMR?

I do the pulls on the easier session of the Rmsr

I have been contemplating doing the coan routine (no assistance) but the volume may kill me so will probably end up making up my own plan for deads

I train just twice a week mate. Usually I do:

Tuesday: Squat, bench

Thursday: Deadlift, Log, back & bis

seems to work quite well at the mo'

Yeah when I posted this I thought of you mate actually

My formulated plan is this now

Day 1
Squats - Russian masters heavy session
Bench - Russian masters light session

Day 2
Squats - Russian masters light session
Bench - Russian masters heavy session
Deads - coan routine (no assistance)

Bonus day will be some higher rep assistance stuff for upper body if I can make it
Not sure if I'll be able to tolerate coan deads but will see, just can't be arsed making a plan for them

Are you competing next year? GBPF?
