So I was told that without the aid of growth hormone and steroids and such I will not build any muscle at all because I'm over 35. Can this be true even if you never reached your potential ? I'm not sold to this idea tbh, otherwise hardly antone would train after 30+ what would be the point? I realise the decrease of testosterone and all that of course. Anyone else have views or experience they want to share,or maybe we could open up sugdenzimmer frame forum for us old folk Happy

Unless you're a maxed-out superheavyweight bodybuilder, there's still hope.

It's definitely true that after 30, testosterone and gh levels plummet. However you can still grow to a decent level with hard work and good diet.

Lets be honest. Unless someone is huge to begin with, or extremely gifted? Not much natural muscle will be gained, unless you're willing to carry excess fat.

I'm definitely bigger, than I am strong. However I'm under no illusion. I'm a fat c**t and if I leaned up I wouldn't look big at all, especially when wearing clothes. Not many real naturals that look impressive when ripped.

To cut long story short. Train your ass off and eat good food. If you're not happy with the results? Buy test!

I didn't start training for powerlifting until my mid / late 30's and have put on a fair bit of size and strength since then. At 43 things are definitely getting tougher, but I'm still pb'ing every so often and could put on more size if I wanted to.

Strength can still go up and size to a certain degree.

Holding size and condition is definitely tougher with lower hormone levels.

the decline in free test is pretty minimal - around 1% per year.
plus the natty amounts are tiny to start with - about 50mg/week max.
considering even a starters PED course is 10 times that you can easily see that 1% of 50mg
is imperceptible in terms of the effect on androgen receptor triggered protein synthesis.

what i think happens is people over 35 tend to be more bogged down with other distractions in their lives (kids, wife, career)
spending every waking hour prepping and timing nutrition, doing gruelling gym sessions and resting, like they could aged 20 is simply not possible.

i remember an 6-8 week period between contracts, post divorce, where i did f**k all but eat good food, train, rest.
made some of the best gains i'd made in a long time, aged 40. no PEDs involved.

At 41 I've suddenly found that my body's ability to heal itself has vanished Unhappy

You could be onto something there. I've reduced my consumption.

I think it really depends where you're starting from relative to your potential.

If I'd hit my mid 30s having lifted regularly for 10 years and already weighing 105kg, maybe progress thereafter would have been difficult. As it stands, I gained 15kg from ages 34-39, and while it's obviously not all muscle I'd like to think most people wouldn't call me a fat c**t Tongue

Happiness, consistency, nutrition, sleep. I've gotten much weaker over the years. Enjoy living in pain. Fake smile. Win before it's too late. I saw this dude get hit in the head with a cue ball. He got up and started bouncing all over the place. Within a couple Minutes he dropped.
I think when I told him he looks terrible and it's too late made him realize it's too late.55 and I'm still bouncing around with a hole in my head. Thank you!

I'm 33 now and I find it easier than ever to pack on mass granted I'm not super lean or anything. I actually had to completely stop doing upper body exercises because I don't fancy being in xxxl clothing. I'm not a strong guy but grow very easily now.
