adam/rob.h yeah M5 now.

my GTR was trashed by a case of inappropriate speeding. a woman pegging it round the corner at orrell crossroads
(had been to Catts on bank holiday august) smashed into the back as we sat in slow moving roadwork traffic.
got injured and receiving a payout for PI too was heavy impact.

used the insurance on that write off to get a PCP deal on the M5. not in the same league as that GTR (760hp litchfield stage 5 effort), but still very capable - much less lairy and attention seeking, can drive without a s**t load of people stopping me at garages/parking etc asking me questions about it (or most annoying taking unsolicited photographs with reg in it and then no doubt shoving it on FB or IG)

anyway back to thread some interesting views

fwiw i am no angel, you don't have a passion for high performance cars and drive like miss daisy all the time.
but, i am real stickler for 30-50 zones - think driving like a nob near pedestrians is infinitely worse than giving it some beans
on a genuine empty stretch of M6 late evening.

what i see now is an almost de facto speed limit on normal volume traffic motorways in the fast lane of around 90-95.
never seen unmarked dibble pulling anyone for ages - not sure if this is due to police cuts or a relaxing of their threshold to pull (sure cops are sick of all the paperwork involved)

think there is a lot worse driving than flat out speeding. today was party to some complete bellend behaviour heading to Leeds on the M62 where the 4 lanes coming up to Saddleworth 'highest point in the uk' filter into 3. i was in 4th lane doing about 80 and saw a nice gap in front to slot into. nice and smoothly i passed car one, probably got about 15m in front and started to indicate left and the dick in this car (audi a5 TDI iirc) floored it, to try cutting me off narrowing the gap to maybe 30-40m max - i'd completely run out of motorway and had little option to kick down and whizz in the rapidly narrowing gap, cue a load of wa**er signs and flashing from the knob behind... this kind of aggressive driving is what cause accidents (no doubt a guy with the usual 'all BMW drivers are selfish c**ts' mindset).

I've been driving on the autobahn a couple of times in the last few months. The standard of driving is a lot better than Ireland and GBNI. No taking stupid chances and the rules are the rules.

We don't have that mentality in Ireland. Its like everyone for themselves (Ireland/Britain) vs I am responsible for other road users safety (Germany).

As an aside in Finland they fine on a percentage of your income. So speeding might be 5% of income for a month rather than 50e. This caused a massive decrease in speed fatalities.

I do speed frequently and agree cars/motorcycles have come on in leaps since the 70mph limit came in. So I would be in favour of an increase in the limit, but only if we address the woeful driving behaviour first.

I think 80mph would be OK, but no more than that.

I'm one of those annoying drivers who sticks to speed limits. Don't like going fast.

LOAL.

Wayne, a friend of mine who is very much into smoking herbal goodness, and reading up unsolved mysteries and conspiracy theories etc, posted a link on his social media about the nephilim.

I thought of you and how much you would love it.

A 12ft red haired giant man, with 6 fingers attacked a yank army squadron. It’s comedy gold.

As I was driving home around 10pm I observed a chap sat in lane 2 of an otherwise free-flowing M61 at about 45mph, being passed at considerable speed on both sides. It's these people that mean we can't have nice things, frankly.

^ there's few things more dangerous than moving too slow on a free flowing motorway in my opinion, I was in the car with the mother-in-law recently, she entered the strangely free flowing M6 at 30mph, and refused to go above 50 and was usually going between 40-45, the amount of HGV and high MPG drivers that had to swerve out of the way suddenly to avoid collision is almost enough to give a guy PTSD.

Worse are the folk who sit in lane 1 doing 55mph.

All the HGV's sit at 56 MPH so they will have to overtake said drivers and they do so only carrying 1mph more speed, creating a rolling 2 lane roadblock for everyone else!

I believe quite a few of the HGVs are limited to 52 or 54 by operators for fuel reasons, or some such, so there'll always be plenty of elephant racing to f**k things up. (Source: a close relative who until recently drove HGVs for an agency.)

Whatever speed they are actually limited to isn't really important Pedant Rick Happy

This issue is cars doing ever so slightly less than this speed!

My point, mate, is that different HGVs are limited to THREE DIFFERENT speeds, and so this sort of slow passing occurs a lot anyway, regardless of car drivers being dicks.

one thing more dangerous is having a missus who when it comes
to driving is the Thai version of hyacinth bucket in the passenger seat
every second updates of 'mind speed limit', 'cameras', 'mind the pedestrians', arguing with my sat nav insisting I go up strange back road routes...and then
Giving me 'turn left/right' instructions 5m before junctions so I have to slam on brakes. So f**king distracting when you've passenger like that...
