Mrs was I'll last night so I stayed home in case the kids woke up early. Give her a day and she'll be right as rain. Of course it does mean I'm still yet to complete a full week this year but such is life.

Thursday 18th January 2018

Wow it was windy this morning. I decided to shelter in garage like a frightened (work shy) animal.

A1 Ring Rows
x 10 reps
x 10 reps
x 10 reps
x 10 reps
x 10 reps --I like these but they feel more like a warm up or finisher lift so I'll switch in something heavier next time. Glad I tried these though as I can see a use for them.

A2 Bench Press
60kg x 5 reps
80kg x 5 reps
100kg x 5 reps
110kg x 3 reps
120kg x 3 reps
130kg x 3 reps --Felt off again. I could just be that I don't like the lift (which is true).

Reverse Band Spoto Press
130kg x 5 reps
130kg x 5 reps
130kg x 5 reps --mmm, not sure the bands work with these or not. I like the feel of something heavy in the hands but not entirely sold.

I need to up my game a bit, there are things today I could have avoided or made better. Acknowledging that things could go better and it is absolutely my fault is empowering, it means I can fix it. Also I need to work on my chest strength; shoulder and triceps

A1 EZ Curl
bar x lots
25kg x 5 reps
35kg x 10 reps
35kg x 10 reps
35kg x 10 reps
35kg x 10 reps
35kg x 10 reps --Perhaps a touch too heavy. If I start dropping reps I will back these off. I want the reps and the blood flow, I just can't help myself and want to add more weight.

A2 Squats
70kg x 5 reps
90kg x 5 reps
120kg x 5 reps
140kg x 3 reps
160kg x 1 rep
--Belt on
180kg x 1 rep
200kg x 1 rep
220kg x 1 rep --Felt heavier than normal today so left it there for a "light" single.
205kg x 4 reps --PB by 1 rep. Another easy PB that was there for the taking. I could have got 5 (perhaps even 6) but I will save that for another day when an easy PB is required Roll-Eyes.

I need to get back on track, getting PB's is fun but I need more grunt, volume work.

Cheers mate. I think a combo of squatting twice a week and tempo squats it helping a lot. Tempo reps give the illusion of a very heavy set without actually being that taxing. I'm actually ramping these up to use in a Russian masters cycle. Should be a good hybrid. Squats seem to be great for me despite my long femurs (comparatively). Also I can give a lot to squats and recovery isn't an issue. If I pushed deads the same way it would be bad.

Truth be told I've never had burning passion for the bench press. It just seems stupid to drop it since it's a big basic strength lift. The problem is in my head rather than being physical.

TBF mate if you don't enjoy it leave it...you do a ton of other pressing you do enjoy, not like you are a powerlifter. One thing i have learned as I've got older...do what you love and hammer it for all its worth, training is meant to be fun.

Sounds sensible mate. Squats and Press every day then lol. I switch in a different press for a bit. I like landmine press so I'll start there.

You'll still need a little pec work in there for muscle balance but focus on that overhead mate and nail a 3 plate overhead!

85kg x 7 reps -- PB by 1 rep. Thought about trying for an 8th but left it in the tank, not sure it would have gone anyway.

A3 Kneeling Rollouts
x 4 reps --I tried to put my feet in the straps and do the foot version today. the problem is with shoes me feet are too big. I'll need to take this back into the house and work the foot version barefoot.

They look about right then ha ha. They do hurt but they're great for learning control. I can feel every micro adjustment as the bar tries to stay over mid foot.

Dead Press is awesome, I live how strict it is. However I do need something with a bit of explosion to overload the lockout. That will probably be a push press. I also need to include dips somewhere, they do good things to me.

Cheers mate, certainly on the the cards, I've used bands before and like them. I need stability in the locked out position. Whenever the weight gets maximal stability at lockout is just as much a problem as lockout strength. Those are the two major issues I need to work on. It will take some experimentation to find out what works so I'll likely switch things in and out.
