Excellent news. It's difficult to remember how inconvenient an injury is until you get one, then it's difficult to think of much else!

Cheers Bim, you are bang on the money with that. In '88 I had a really s**t year with a slipped disc and late '17 early '18 was dreadful as I have been in pretty much constant discomfort. Pain would be overstating it but discomfort is a burden when it never really goes away. What made it worse (in one sense) was that it was entirely my own fault. The last few weeks have been a delight and chances are it is going to get more delightful

Happy

Pushing the envelope on days that you are supposed to be strong but for some reason your not. You don't want to believe it so you push the envelope so self induced. To be free of pain is a blessing. I wish good health to the both of you. Pain is no way to live, but then again so is a crummy deadlift.

That make me chuckle for quite some time, in the unlikely event that I ever get a tattoo, that line is a contender. You are a wise man Billy and I don't care who knows it

Wednesday, 6th June, (74th anniversary of the D day landings) start 16:20

Arrived at my usual time to find a couple of cars on the car park that haven't been there for some time, Thailand Tony and Phil the Behemoth are with us once again. It was a delight to see Phil again, it has been too long. He also brought the excellent news that Andy Foster of this parish will be joining us later, which is yet another happy event.

So after half and hour's unexpected chat, we begin

Bench, very raw
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
40 x 5
60 x 3
70 x 1
80 x 1
90 x 1
100 x 1
110 x 1
120 x 1
130 x 1
130 x 1
115 x 2
110 x 2
I decided to try a single or two tonight and all of the above, apart from the empty bar were paused. The first 130 was a shade too close to my face and was hard as a result but the second was a better effort altogether and although slow, was a solid lift. The double after them were really rather easy. There does seem to be a definite change in the mental side of things once 130 is reached. It's almost as though I cannot countenance any sort of failure at less than that, but once that weight is reached I can :-(

Close grip
65 x 8
75 x 8
85 x 8
95 x 8
105 x 8
I didn't expect to get the full eight at 105 but I did and I am happy about it. Last time it was just the four so five or more would have had me smiling. Eight was a welcome surprise. So all in all a pleasant evening some old friends, a welcome visitor and the usual motley crew. I have had worse days.

Friday, 8th June, start 16:20

Place is quite busy when I arrive and proceeds to get even busier

Tbar row, these are in pounds
50 x 10
50 x 10
75 x 10
100 x 10
125 x 10
150 x 10
175 x 10
175 x 10
175 x 10

Tbar shrug, still pounds
150 x 10
175 x 10
200 x 10
225 x 10
225 x 10
225 x 10

Pulldown to front, back to kilos, narrow grip
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
These are far less enjoyable than the wide grip, which I guess is the main reason why I should continue to do them. Nothing much planned foir the weekend, which right now sounds like a very good idea.

We used to have powerlifting meetings in Colne, it's a nice little place and home to a huge retail outlet named Boundary Mill, opposite this there is a fish and chip restaurant called Banny's.

Today, on a whim I decided to have a drive out there for some dinner. It's a 95 mile round trip, but what the hell. They seemed, since my last visit, to have taken on an Indian and Scottish theme. One of the dishes on offer was the "Famous Indian Fish Supper" Now one, it isn't famous and two a "fish supper" only means any thing in Scotland, it has no currency whatsoever in England, save Colne possibly. Also one of the desserts on offer was a deep fried, battered Mars Bar. Obviously I had no truck with such foolishness and plumped for your bog standard fish, chips and mushy peas, and very nice it was to.

However, some conversation with the waitress revealed that the above mentioned dishes are hugely popular in that restaurant and they are both top sellers. Sometimes I despair of the English, especially as I am one. This is one of those times.

Now for the interesting bit and the real reason for this post, because of a deviation in route the way there is 50 miles and home is 45, the mpg there was 85.0 but the way home was 94.1. Seriously, 45 miles and 94.1 mpg. Admittedly all bar 5 of the 45 miles is motorway, it wasn't bad traffic and the car was warm when I started off from there. Average speed was 47.7, but I can only wonder what it would have been if I was of normal weight, as I am in BMW's eyes always carrying a passenger.

Message ends, please feel free to celebrate in whatever way you think bestHappy

Edit - the fish and chips was not "mice" it was "nice"

Lived in Scotland for a few years. All chip shops must have at least one fruit machine, sell booze and fags, open very early until late, deep fry in batter everything, don't do gravy, 'babbies yeds' or pea-wet, have distilled vinegar, you must ask for 'a chip' not chips, and any meal with 'a chip' at any time of the day is 'a supper'
