No, I am lazy and I am considerably more stupid than I used to be... I need to do a course to wake up my brain muscles. Am looking at a Level 4 Obesity & Diabetes Management course to get me started... though I would really like to do something more creative as I used to like writing and am sure my degree was awarded more for style than substance.

I did only problem was opportunities were scarce and whilst still searching had to take what I could to provide for my family, I haven't given up! Just seriously had enough of what I'm doing right now, in a bad spot right now that's all, light at the end of the tunnel and all that.
I see someone has decided to put words in my mouth....a tagline!

What job are you doing?

Ross,

From an ex-scientist. Don't stay out of your field for more than a year or 2 if you want to get back into it. Especially at Universities, they are looking for recent publications and ability to contribute to RAE assesments (or whatever they are called now). I realise you position (I was in the same boat), but if you want to work in science then time out is not a good thing.

Haha, that's Manchester for you... I am ashamed to say that I grew up in a Gaelic speaking community and yet I can't speak or even understand it. Back in the '60s Gaelic wasn't cool, all the country lads had it as their first language and had to be taught English when they went to infant school. But they ended up bilingual while us townies were monoglots. Now it's really cool, and lots of jobs specify Gaelic speaking as an essential or desireable skill. I can speak better French than Gaelic!

Happy now?

NOT REALLY.

either you are:

a) thick as f**k.

b) pretty intelligent and are pretending to be thick as f**k by making a video of a video.

I suspect it is b) which incidentally is sad as f**k.
