no i would agree, but would you not also agree, that those events at BSM found the "strongest" man?
I would also disagree that the yoke (400 isnt heavy really nowadays) and loading (circumstances for cut unforseen) would not be testing "limit" strength for WSM athletes, so 2 of 6 isn't too bad IMO

It did find the strongest man

I don't think the strongest man is NECESSARILY the best strongman

yeah, but loads struggled with that yoke, it seemed a lot heavier than 400(Cherrie was doing 400 for 20m in 12 secs before the comp)

Hixx thought it was about 390

maybe he (Cherry) just had a bad yoke day!

Do you not agree JC that doing a comp that just tests 'limit' strength DOES find the strongest man but not the best strongman?

It surely finds the best strongman at limit strength. I think some people forget what strongman is supposed to be sometimes. It needs variety

Yes maybe, but, as I stated, yoke and loading are not limit strength events (or certainly should not be at those weights for elite level guys)

Yes i agree those weights, for those guys, is fine imo

But i do think you would prefer to see max/limit strength/weights in all comps.

Our view of what we would like to see in comps (as martinb and my views show) get a little muddied by what you're acftually good at/enjoy I think

I like comps with very heavy farmers/yoke for 20m, max DL, max log, squat, stones

but I also enjoy lighter farmers over 40m, sandbag loading, farmers/drag etc, so I'm not really sure

Given the choice though, in all honesty, I'd go for the very heavy implements over short distances and max lifts option

I think this is interesting and true to an extent.

However I do also like watching events I am not good at, as it impresses me more knowing how poor i am at it.

However, I dont like watching it at a comp I am taking part in, as I see others racking up points and leaving me behind Unhappy

In truth, I enjoy seeing a balanced comp, that tests as many aspects of strength as possible. I like max events, but I think one per comp is enough, I like medleys, but I think the last item should be set in away that strength is prioritised over speed (ie heavy last item) and i love events that look impressive with big awkward things.

I have yet to find a comp i wouldn't enjoy watching, but i do prefer a balanced one.

I also dont like seeing events athat are being completed in stupid fast times, it makes it look easy, and surely that is not the point.

Surely each strongman comp should follow a basic formula

A max weight event
A max reps event
A grip event
A loading event
A athletic event
Sometimes a strongman specific event. Like truck pull/ stone carry/ car roll (normally where funds allow)

maybe i'm being lazy but i think these last two points should be the same. the kind of thing that takes a while and really tests conditioning and stamina.

and obv the loading event last Wink

The order was just how I thought of them

I think a object carry for distance and a long medly say challenge very different and very important aspects of the sport

One thing that puts me off running a 120s comp' is that quite a few seem to think it would be good for one off comp' but not as "proper" weight class with regionals/nationals etc...

...that said I think I will run one anyway... I'll need to check dates but am thinking it will look something like this (with these events I'd likely have to cap numbers at about 16... which is kind of a nice problem to have IF it arises!).

Vehicle Deadlift
Axle/Dumbell Medley
Power Stairs
Cross Carry
Loading Medley
