Fazc | Anyone learned a new language via audio CD? | 05-10-2012 @ 12:20
Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | Since I'm commuting a fair bit, I figured I'd use that time to learn at least the conversational basics of a new language. There are loads of products which say they can do that. Anyone have any recommendations of a particular company/product I should go with? Also has anyone actually learned the basics of a new language via audio CD and what did you learn?

I talk to a lot of people who can speak multiple languages and always feel like the ignorant Englishman who can't say more than a few words in any other language.

I didn't get the audio CD with it but I did learn the alphabet, basics etc. I've been told my accent is spot on too so goes to show you don't need the CD to be any good (although it may help). I learnt Polish just by being around a bunch of Polish girls, and kept my memory fresh by having basic conversations with other people of the same nationality. I think growing up speaking two languages will definitely be an advantage as I seem to pick up other languages fairly easily.

I know a few languages already but figure it'd be a better use of my time, at the moment I'm learning all of the words to every Johnny Cash song. Not a bad use of time either!

Once you get those down and can understand them being spoken and in sentences, you will be on the road to learning the chosen language. Some of them like Linguaphone promise 3000 words for the first course, so I guess they heard of that as well. I figure it'll have to be just the CD though, no textbook as I only really wanna be doing it while on the road.
