Is anyone currently insuring there excess to bring down there car insurance

In other words sticking a £1000 excess on your policy and then insuring that excess with another company for say £50 been dealing with a company that create these policys and it seems a good way of bringing insurance premiums down just Wonderd if anyon was currently doing it or would be interested ?

Does it make much of a difference in reality?

I thought insurers were worried about boy racers causing claims for millions by maiming some poor pedestrian, or killing their passengers, not so much a grands worth of damage here and there.

You could probably find a company to insure the insurance excess insurance policy if you looked hard enough!! Grin

When I wrote my car off last week they rang me up and offered me an extra £100 as the engineers thought the original quote was too low. £1100 for a 12 year old 998cc 80,000 yaris is more than I expected

They scope for it at local market rate if quotes are around that figure they settle in full, average increase companys put on when it's through insurance is 50% !

Tell me more!

My excess is a bag of sand.

plus another 400 for being under 25.

I can't offer a higher excess.

Is there money to be saved for me? Or would I just be paying less excess in the event of a claim?

never heard of this before so just read policy wording (cos i'm an insurance nerd)

Seems a bit s**t, alot of general exclusions and limits and terms and conditions to be met

E.G not taking reasonable care & will not pay for claims for glass only

Unfortunatly it won't work for you tom in terms of bringing your insurance down but it would mean you pay less if you claim

The example where it works is when a person is fully comp say there premium with a 250 excess is around £1800
With a £1000 pound excess it becomes 1500 you cover that excess for 50 and then in the end you are paying 1550 so a 150 pound saving and 200 saving on your excess in the event of a claim

I will get my hands on the paper work and see what I make of it but from what iv heard this will be the next big thing in vehicle insurance

I wouldn't get to sucked in, insurance is there to make money so the risk/reward will have to be high enough hence all the exclusions and policy conditions .

don't be surprised if they kick it out
