OK....

So I was parked on a slope. Another car parks behind me quite close. I get in my car, and when I pop the clutch in to start the engine, my car slipped backwards a bit (my handbrake is quite pathetic when it comes to hills, so I have to leave it in gear...)

Anyway, I made ever so slight contact with the front bumper of the car behind me. I do the right thing and get out and exchange details. A quick inspection of both cars shows absolutely f**k ALL damage done to either.

I'm fairly certain when he looks in daylight tomorrow he'll also see there was no damage, but I also get the feeling he might want to f**k ME with either an extortionate quote to fix some imaginary damage, or taking it through my insurance.

Now, when I got home, I checked on http://www.askMID.com and the interesting part is he doesn't appear to have insured his car.

So with that in mind, can he claim against me through my insurance?

My guess is he probably can't, so he will offer to let me settle up without insurance.

What would sugden do?

If he is driving uninsured and there is zero damage, I would be extremely surprised if he takes it further.

That's all I've got...

id ring the guy and say youve got no insurance.... so dont even think about claiming as you can quite easily be reported for driving a vehicle illegally without insurance

My guess is he'll give me a call and offer to allow me to give him £500.

Which being less than what it would cost me to go through insurance, WOULD have been an attractive option.

However if he CAN'T go through insurance, then he has no leverage and I could just not give him any money?

Only thing is this was outside my house so he knows where I live. I'm uncomfortable with that.

If he can't claim through your insurance I'd tell him to f**k off if he tries to take the piss. If there is no damage then there is nothing to pay.

Yes I'm happy with getting away "scott free". I'm unhappy with my windows maybe getting put through though.

I have another ace up my sleeve. The body shop he said he would get a quote from is owned by a family friend, so I can always check with him to see if he is f**king me or not.

SO when he rings and tells me he wants 5 grand, maybe I'll offer to not report him for being uninsured.

He can claim even if he aint insured.

I know of a person that has done this, the solicitor told him even though he was not insured it doesnt give the driver of the other vehicle the right to crash into him.

If there is no damage to the vehicle i doubt he would claim and if he doesnt have insurance im not sure he would want to risk police involvment which could lead to a costly fine and points.
