Depends on the date I'm afraid Matt, I think ESM midlands qualifier will be the monday...
» Who drinks what during training? (Go to post)20-01-2011 @ 09:45
Dead simple

500ml fruit juice
20gr maltodextrin
400mg caffeine
Topped up to 1 litre with water

If I need the electrolytes I'll chuck in a sachet of dioralyte

f**k paying silly money for sports drinks, it's only salts, sugars and stimulant!

I still haven't forgiven you for that
» Wee bit of axle from yesterday! (Go to post)19-01-2011 @ 13:25
There's some power there Ken, good work!
» What does your pressing day look like???????? (Go to post)19-01-2011 @ 13:21
I don't have a pressing day, but press twice a week currently in this six week block.

1: Max Effort
Push press up to a daily 1-3RM, then a 3-5RM
Bench up to a daily 1RM, then 3 sets with 75%D1RM to failure

2: Repetition
Push press 3 sets with 80% Projected 1RM to 1 before failure
Close grip incline 4 sets with 80% Projected 1RM to 1 before failure

This is a new style of training for me to increase conditioning and size, so may not look like a 'typical' strength routine... Tongue

Pint said:Hi Dave, nice to hear from you.

The events sound pretty heavy I know, but the weight "in the hands" for things like the fingals finger and the wheelbarrow are easily doable and even I can lift them just about.

All of the events will be challenging for speed and reps, but well within the normal limits of Novices and Intermediates. (The Axle clean and press is a bit heavier than I would have picked for myself, but thats the evil Mr Frampton for you!!!LOL).

MAtt

In fairness it was only the axle I thought was a little heavy, but having said that I would still expect 6-8 reps here. The last car deadlift I did was 280 ish I recall and I pulled 13 then passed out lol. Taking that into account and the Chase open last year where I took points of both Kelv and Si Cowdrey (not many admittedly haha) I think I should skip the Inters from now on, I don't want to be 'that c*nt' people point the finger at. Onwards, upwards and ever fatter!

I'm feeling confused yet again with standards and classes! Confused

I thought I'd just squeezed into open category now and was on my way up, albeit slowly (3rd in the chase Open last year and holding my own at the bottom of the pack of ESM qualifier, but then again I stuffed up H4H completely and looked like a dick), pulled 300+ and put 145 overhead. But these inter events look like they'd be hard work for me.

Matt, you know me and what standard I am, what are your thoughts? (aside from I think this is the day before ESM qualifier lol)

Jack knives 10kg medball *10
Cycling twists *10
Crunches *10
Back extensions *10
10kg medball slams *10
Knees to feet *5

Managed to fall down the stairs this morning and bang my knee lol so was tentative about doing this session, but am glad I did. Fronties were all good, and most of the deads were. Set up was a little off at the start of a few reps so it really threw me off past the knee, but were largely good. RDLs were nice and snappy, and leg pressed instead of lunged today to save my knee. COmplex at the end was horrible, yuck.

Total time 2 hours 10 mins

Be prepared to work a lot for not much money for a couple if years while you build experience (of working in the industry, not training). If you want to do it because you love it you won't care Grin

Don't do it if you want to make money.

I have and do use one, and am one lol
» Your long term goals in strength sports? (Go to post)17-01-2011 @ 23:30
I dont really have long term goals, only short and medium term. As I achieve them I set new ones a little further away.

The furthest ahead I'm looking really is 2 years.

Pull 350kg raw
Press 180kg overhead
Make a national final

Great overhead mate, mental weight. Surely this is technically a jerk (albeit with a lockout) though?
