It's my birthday soon and I'm thinking of treating myself to a better bike computer. I currently use a pretty basic garmin edge 200.

I'm looking at getting this one:

First impression is that it seems a tad expensive for what it is. Is this just the going rate?

Listening to music whilst out on the road - ok or dangerous?

I must say I do it and it doesn't feel TOO bad.

Is it Dr_Hazburn; or Mr_Hazburn now?

Thanks mate.

Well, Drs can call themselves Mr or Miss when the pass their postgraduate exams (usually done 2/3 of the way through speciality training) and become inducted into one of the Royal Colleges that involve surgical specialities (Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists etc etc). So, I was officially a Mr in 2012. In practice though, most people wait until they're in consultant posts before they drop the Dr title (some never do).

Thanks fellas.

I've been posting here for 8 or so years now and feel I need to share the fact that I got a consultant job the other day.

I turn 36 next month and it's taken exactly half my living days in training and education to get to this point. Over the last 18 years, I've picked up 4 degrees, several postgraduate diplomas and membership of one royal college. I've had yearly appraisals for the last 12 years and trained and worked in 15 hospitals. I've packed my bags and moved 'house' 9 times.

Sugdenbarbell has certainly added some fun and entertainment to proceedings and for that, I am thankful.

All this stuff can be very sobering.

Sadly, being boring and unambitious is probably the key to longevity.

A little work, a little food, a little drink, a little exercise..
» Mr malanichev squatting rather a lot of weight (Go to post)01-05-2016 @ 16:33
Maybe I've been away from powerlifting for too long and gone a bit soft, but 'that's a high squat' wouldn't have been my first thought.

It's possibly a bit high but I wouldn't want to put my mortgage on it.

Pause the video when he's at the bottom. It's there or thereabouts.

A proper side ref view would be nice.

SorryHappy Maybe it's me that's an odd shape.
Just had to send back size XL Castelli jersey's despite only weighing 75kg? Too tight around the shoulders and too large round the waist. I must need to get skinnier and fatter?

All the swimming keeps your shoulders sexier than your average weedy cyclist!

Plus, all those years of jerking heavy barbells over your noggin will have etched deep rooted sexiness in them shoulders.

In fact, I lie.

I saw Tom Martin pull 350kg at the GBPF British Universities comp in 2010 when it was held in Oxfordshire. Probably the most impressive sporting achievement I've witnessed in the flesh:

I believe he was 82kg. Great lift.

Paul Cooper (74kg type of fellow) pulled a powerlifting 300kg a couple of weeks back

Great pull.

I've never seen a sub 83 guy pull 300 in the flesh. Off the top of my head, in the 10 plus years that I spent in gyms and powerlifting clubs, I've only met 2 blokes in the (now old) 82.5 class pull 270-280. 300 is pretty special for sure.

Steve, I completely agree. This also kind of echos what you're saying too:

Bare handed with no hitch and you'll find that a 300 kg deadlift will no longer be as commonplace as this thread is implying. (Whether in a deadlift suit or not and regardless of whether sumo or conventional). Poor grip and small hands will take out quite a few who think they can hoik up 300 with straps and bad form.

I've had the same problem with my Garmin 910. Sticking it under the tap to clean the sensor sorts it out (the 910 is fully waterproof - I don't know about other models!)

I'll try this mate. Thanks.

I like everything about Malanichev: his appearance, his attitude, his gym, the way he lifts. Powerlifting needs more Malanichevs.
