Funky_monkey said:Special supplements make a massive amount of difference. A friend of mine got from 60kg to 120kg raw bench in less than a year, to 135kg 3-4 years after and then 12 weeks to get to 160. I agree. Young guy in my gym was squatting and deadlifting well over 200 in a matter of weeks when he started the movements. He went from a 120kg bench to a 207.5kg comp bench in around a year. He wasn't natural but was never tested during a push/pull comp. Think was 207.5kg bench and 290kg deadlift in the 105kg class.

I use to work in a bar. Guy asks me "do you do a bit of weightlifting?" I answer "yeah I do a bit when I find time" He then asks whats my biggest bench? Think It was 135 at the time, he was like "oh thats pretty good. I dont actually lift but one time I was at the gym I pressed 150." Funny thing is, If I told him I lifted 90kg he would of told me he pressed a 100. If I had told him In benched 200, he would have said 210 etc. You get these guys who always has done better or knows someone who is better.

Only a video from 2011 he benched 250 with arched back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaIABTudX9U If Z trained it properly I'd imagine he would be good for 300

I read he used to do work sets of 220 for reps of 2. I reckon he could maybe of pressed 240-250. Definitely not 290.

milsy said: If you are having to cut weight say 3- 5kg start water/sodium loading the day before the last squat session and don't cut carbs until the day after the bench session drop the sodium out on that day that day aswell keep water intake high the on day out wake up drink 3 litres of water as early as possible then limit to a couple of small glasses as the day goes on eat white fish with lemon and asparagus as te day goes on hot bath and warm clothes in bad you should be in Worst thing you can do is cut carbs and train both mentally and physically excellent advice cheers. Next time though I'm going to just enter the weight am at. Once I have a good comp then I will maybe worry about cutting down to a weight class. I'm about 93kg now,so will stick to that weight for my next comp.

milsy said:Deadlift 10 days out Squat 7 days out Bench 3 days Even if it feels light as a feather don't go over 75-80% current 1rep max no reps just singles under comp rules I will try this at my next comp. I lifted too heavy and ate no carbs week leading up to my first comp. Was f**king silly and I performed s**t. Oh well the one good thing about doing crap first time out is, I will smash that total next time and set PBS. |
