5th February Squats: 5x5 150kg Bench Press: 5x 130, 3x145, 3x5 135kg (widened grip, pinkies on insie of outer ring) Weighted Pullups: 5xBW+10kg, 4x5 BW+15kg Chins: 2x10 BW, 9xBW, 8xBW The new squatting style is beginning to feel a bit better, I'm confident this way will ultimately lead to bigger weights. Also have switched to benching with a wider grip, reduced range of motion but feels slightly awkward. | |||

1st February 2014 Dieting quite aggressively so weights aren't as high as they would be usually. I'm also attempting to transition into squatting flat footed, as I think that style will eventually allow me to recruit my glutes and hamstrings to a greater degree, and so hopefully move more weight. First day back training after the Christmas break Decided to see where I'm at and go up to some relatively heavy (for me) weights Squats 5x170 Bench - Up to a single of 160 Deadlift - Up to a single of 230 Rows - 3x5 100 Strength is a little bit down, but that's OK - I'm cutting and a slight loss in strength is to be expected I suppose. | |||

I tested my squat and bench 1RMs Squat (beltless) 1x 180, 190, 195 and then fail on 200 195 beltless squat is a PR for me. I've had two workouts since I last updated Saturday Squat - 7x5 160kg Bench - 1x4 140kg - I was supposed to do 7x5 140kg but after getting some pain in my shoulder I stopped after partially completing the first set. Monday Squat - 10x3 170kg Bench - 5x5 140kg I've never squatted 170 for reps without a belt before, so the program is definitely working! I think I'm going to have to be more conservative with the weight I am using on the bench press; I had intended to do 7x5 but could only manage 5x5. All in all things are progressing well, and I think I am still set to hit a 200 beltless squat quite soon and hopefully push my bench up closer to 170 (and on to the magic 180kg!) | |||

I did 14 the other day, but I lied when I told you they were dead hang; they weren't the strictest form if I'm honest, but anyway, a pullup is a pullup so it's all good. Smolov Week 2 - Day 2 Squats 5x7 150kg (all done without any trouble at all!) Bench 7,7,7,6,6 x 130kg (it was supposed to be 5x7 130kg but I was rushed towards the end as the gym was closing so my rest time and recovery suffered a bit) All going swimmingly - now on to day 3 of week 2, 7x5 of 160kg and 137.5kg for squat and bench press respectively. | |||

Today went very well! I've bought a pair of 'Vulkan Warm Pants' (similar to the Rehband Warm Pants), they do a brilliant job of keeping my hips warm and make squatting an altogether more pleasurable endeavour. Today's Smolov sets were as follows Squats - 140kg - 4x9 Bench Press - 125kg - 4x9 Then to finish up, 5x5 of medium-wide grip pull ups with 5kg of added weight. All going smoothly! | |||
