22/9

Deadlifts

230 x 2, 2,
260 x 2, 2,
300 x 2, 2,
330 x 2 - PB.

Stones

up to 140.

Tragic day today, ended up sitting in traffic for 2 hours, which made my 2hr drive a diabolic experience, and left me hungry and rather dehydrated by the time came to train.

On the bright side, ive managed to get my atlas stones home, so i should be able to train them a little over winter if we get some dry days.

21/9

Banded curls/overhead presses

Rotator cuff rotations

Banded shoulder dislocations

1 clean strict monster log

85 x 2, 2,
105 x 2, 2,
115 x 3 - PB,
115 x 3,
120 x 3 - PB,
sleeves on
125 x 4 - PB,
130 x 1 - PB.

After having the very obvious problem with my cleans pointed out to me on sunday, tonights cleans were much tidier. Thus avoiding any issues with the poorly bicep and leaving me in a much better position to press.
Now that things are heading the right way im fairly confident i will strict my current monster log press PB within a week or 2.
» Solid Adjustable Multi Purpose Bench Recommendations ? (Go to post)19-09-2017 @ 20:49
I own the strength shop riot bench and it feels fairly solid, though ive never had above 300kg total weight on it.

It also cant decline, if that matters to you.

19/9

Single leg calf raises, 3 x 10.

Assisted overhead squats

Hanging knee raises, 3 x 15.

Squats

100,
140,
180 x 2 eomom x 15.

Back in to proper training tonight.
This was a weird one, squats were all very easy, but i couldn't seem to stick to the same line. No real idea why, other than a little tightness in my left knee everything feels fine. I'll be sticking around this weight until ive got my cues down again and can squat properly without having to focus so intently on each stage.
» Deloading before a comp? (Go to post)18-09-2017 @ 20:07
I liberated a deload plan from a peaking routine AMH put up on here a while back. I ran it leading up to my last two comps and utterly loved it. I dont see me trying anything else in the forseeable future.

Assuming the comp is sunday:

Monday, 3 x 3 @ 80%. I used squat, deadlift and strict press. For a powerlifting meet id swap overhead with bench.

Wednesday, 3 x 3 @ 60%. Same exercises.

Friday, 3 x 3 @ 40%. Same exercises.

I also did a fair amount of mobility and stretching on the saturday morning.

18/9

External rotations, 2 x 5.

Powell raises, 2 x 5.

Banded shoulder dislocations, 2 x 5.

Btn strict press

40,
60 x 5, 5, 5.

Close grip incline press

60,
100 x 5, 5, 5.

Utterly ruined today, not really sure why. A combination of yesterdays training and a bonkers busy day at work i suspect.
The suspected shoulder injury has served as a reminder for me to keep up on my shoulder mobility exercises, which have fallen by the wayside over the last year or so, so todays session was just about getting everything mobile and remembering how to do things.

Enjoyable pulling.

Up date us at the end of the cycle.

17/9

Sled drag

200kg x 15m,
300kg x 10m.

Yoke

80,
160,
240,
320 x 20m,
400 x 20m.

Frame

213 x 20m,
253 x 20m,
293 x 20m.

1 clean log press

75,
100,
120,
130 x 3,
140 x 1.

Not a bad session today, biceps felt much better on the regular sized log, so should be able to keep chasing the goal of a 160 log.
Everything else was just helping prep 1 of my training partners for the SFN expo next month.
» Impossible to build muscle after 35 or harder? (Go to post)16-09-2017 @ 15:25
paul_richards said:Agree, I am 40 in a few months and haven't PBd in maybe 7 years. I find I get injured easier and injuries take longer to heal. My aim these days is to try and stay healthy, be stronger and be in better shape than the average 40yr old

If you havent PB'd since your early 30s then im afraid age wasnt the problem, either life got in the way, or you were doing something very wrong.

That said, since your goal isnt terribly high reaching id guess you are quite content and thats probably a big factor in why PBs arent coming.

15/9

Assisted overhead squats

Hanging knee raises, 3 x 12.

Deadlifts

110,
190,
270,
310 x 1.

Feeling utterly ruined today after physio, so just did a little bit to make myself get off the couch and away from the doughnuts/shortbread/cookies.

Shoulder pain is apparently due to some serious tightness and possible tendinitis in the biceps. Physio has suggested going easy on it for a couple of weeks, and since the comp season is over ive told him i will (he was a tad shocked, my usual response over the last month to his suggested rest was a flat 'no, how can we work around it to get me through the season'). This means other than log I'll be going very easy on biceps, no loading, front squats etc.

14/9

Neutral grip chins, 5 x 3.

1 clean strict monster log

85 x 2, 2, 2,
105 x 2, 2, 1,
125 x 1 - PB.

Attempted some incline press after this but my shoulder (which started twinging on the 2nd set @ 105) simply didnt enjoy it.
No need to push through such niggles currently so called it.
The PB was just because the presses were so easy (cleans were fugly).
Training is aimed towards a few very specific gym PBs over the next month or so until my son is born, so I'll be hitting log press twice a week.

ben66 said:Paul, what's your current full squat, bench, OH and deadlift max single at the moment? Or just before you hurt your back, if you're out of action. At 160kg+ BW you must have some pretty big numbers by now!

You must be new here

Some people are bigger cheaters than me so im not really even cheating.

Love the logic.
» Paul Savage training log (Go to post)13-09-2017 @ 19:11
Your view of cheating varies hugely to the rest of the world then.

The rules say no drugs within 3 years. Breaking that rule is cheating.
There is no ambiguity or grey area.

That said since your use is public knowledge id hope you wouldnt be allowed to compete anyway so it should never become an issue.

Again, I don't know but since they can't test that far back a rule like that wouldn't have any meaning. I don't even see it as a positive thing in terms of performance either, you need to factor in that your test is now lower, it works both ways. Cheating to me is getting an unfair advantage, not an advantage in the past but now when training/competing a disadvantage.

Breaking the rules is cheating. Clear as day.
AAS use is a performance enhancer, the drop in natural test levels doesnt begin to balance the scales. That comes not only from the science, but from the fact ive used on and off over the years myself.

Would you honestly rather cheat and win a natty title, than do untested and lose?
