The Northwest division of British Powerlifting(GBPF) has grown rapidly this last few years with about 300 members now. Next year we will be holding 11 events in the division. Competitions are filling up sometimes within a day of it opening. In the coming years I think we'll see local contests becoming much more common.
I think all strength sports have seen their numbers increase in recent years as this type of training has become more popular. It has changed so much with Equipped lifters being very much a minority.
All contests are full for this year but if you want to give it a go next year there's a contest to suit everyone but just make sure you commit to entering it early to avoid disappointment.

Rogue bars and discs are now IPF approved, bars are about £320 which is a great deal and I've heard they're pretty good, a fraction of Eleiko costs

I'll second Slaters, you can order online for delivery in store and then get them to do the alterations or even swap the trousers etc. I've had a couple of Charles Thywitt shirts too which are very good quality and not at all badly priced. There are some Hong Kong tailors do measuring sessions such as Ashas and Raja at locations around the country then post back to you in 4-5 wks, you really can tell the difference and feel really special when you wear it. Stick with dark grey, black or dark blue to stand the test of time with 3 button single breast.

This is just a normal open contest, that is to say each weight category will have all ages classes in it. It's the first time we've held one in this part of the region and there's already about 20 lifters entered so far a large portion of which haven't lifted before so don't let the fact that it doesn't have novice in the title put you off. All the entry details can be found on www.nwpowerlifting.org.uk

I recall seeing them in a plumbing merchants for a fraction of the Hive price. Might be worth checking out.

Powerlifting has grown enormously this last couple of years so the calendar of events has grown to accommodate these new lifters and we've added a larger venue to the lineup. Last year several events expanded to become full weekend contests, this year we've 9 contests so there's something for everyone from Novice to Masters. Historically we've had quite a few Sugden lifters in our ranks when rhis site was heavily NW based members. Contests will be listed on here shortly but here's a link to our site.

The GBPF is by far the largest powerlifting organisation in the UK, there's an unrivalled contest structure and has a drug free ethos.
New lifters are always made welcome and there's a fantastic, friendly and supportive atmosphere. Make one of these contests your New Years resolution.

» GBPF NW Powerlifting Champs 28/29th Nov. (Go to post)26-11-2015 @ 21:26
We have the GBPF NW championships coming up this weekend, in a changed to the advertised(on here) venue the contest is being held over 2 days at:
UTS South Wirral
Chicken Corner Farm
Raby Mere Road
Clatterbridge
Wirral
CH63 4JQ
Lift off is at 11am on both days, there's ample spectator space and food and drink available too( there's a bar also!)
Saturday is all women and men up to 83kg. Sunday is 93-120+kg There's almost 90 lifters in total, if you're free this weekend come down and watch some impressive lifting, it's a friendly atmosphere and it might inspire you to lift in our novice contest in January.

A quick google search proves you are right, there were 9 guests viewing it too!
Andy was a regular contributor, hence my error

I think Andy's "No skanks here" thread attracted at lot of guests, seem to recall someone doing a screen shot from the time where students or similar must have all been looking as it probably isn't flagged as an adult site.

I spoke to CYC's coach Dietmar the other week, he's had a problem with his knee but is recovering well. He's still handling reasonable weights, he's going to build up to do something later next year.

There's a new bar on the block made by Titan, better known for their suits and wraps.

I think they prey on vulnerable people who are looking for an answer to something that is unexplainable to them.

I'm wanting to do this as my first comp. can I join the gbpf in November and get membership for next year included which I think I've read somewhere. Buying all the new ipf approved kit is pretty expensive so if I can avoid paying for membership twice within a few months it would be useful tbh.

Yes they do a late year membership I think after Nov 1st it runs till end of 2016.
