yes it does

knee wraps, single ply stuff is fine IMO, double/triple ply is where things start getting silly and powerlifting turns into a very different sport

Hold i back from what?

It's never gona be a spectator friendly sport. Strongman is much better for a lay person and so is weightlifting probably.

Although the gear may be a factor in getting into the olympics I believe there are other issues stopping powerlifting from being an oly sport and doubt they're gona change anytime soon.

If you have a US-centric view of powerlifting then it may seem as if powerlifting is x10ply and half squats. Luckly that's not really the case.

However... I suspect the IPF may well do unequipped internationally at some point in the near future.

I enjoy the equipment but it#s def love-hate and knee wraps only seems a great way to go. Off course titan would then have to charge 100 quid for wraps lol Metal would be 200 quid!!

I voted yes, I'm scared of suits and shirts. Would much rather see everyone lift without equipment.

YES , everyone always tries to get into kit 3 sizes too small , even by equipment standards .... personally id like to see wraps and single ply , mabie even a 'suit size range' for the bodyweight

oh and AWSOME PIC on the front page rob !!

Very provocative Mr Bethel! Especially as you can use equipment AND improve your raw strength. I think what holds powerlifting back is the lack of information about getting into the sport in the typical gym, the weakening of the sport by the proliferation of feds, especially in the states, and the perceived associations with steroids (rightly or wrongly). Most people in the gym, farless on the street, don't have a clue what a bench shirt or squat suit is or does. Media coverage and growth is participants is the classic chicken and egg - one leads to the other, but we need to do one first!

So my personal choice would be 'classic' powerlifting (wraps but no suits), but I don't blame equipment for where the sport finds itself.

everytime this question comes about it would seem most guys would like to compete in belt and wraps only, but the federations choose to carry on as they are
