You could also try suspending a barbell a few inches off the ground and letting your leg sink onto it. Use it like a foam roller on all sides. It really lets you know where the nasty bits are.

These might help you.

Try applying pressure where the 'x's in the pictures are (for the lat try a tennis ball against a wall). The muscle usually feels tender or tight like a bunch of guitar strings if you have the right spot. Move your hand and fingers around while the pressure's on. If you're lucky and find the right spot(s) then you'll notice a reduction in pain. Keep applying pressure for a couple of minutes and repeat a few times throughout the day. Stop if you lose feeling/consciousness/arm turns blue.

Hope it helps!

» 645% increase in steroid users, says charity (Go to post)09-04-2014 @ 17:05
This puts the 'rise' in perspective -

https://fullfact.org/health/steroid_use_increase_645_per_cent-31280

Looks like the increase is only in the number of people visiting this charity's needle exchanges, not an increase in users.

The government estimate for steroid users for 2012/13, males aged 24-59 was 59,000, and the proportion of users for that population is given elsewhere as 0.2%. In 1996 it was 0.3% and seems to have been either 0.1% or 0.2% since then. So it looks like numbers have actually been quite steady for some time.
» Uncontrolable knee cave in squats (Go to post)06-04-2014 @ 21:16
I found this article reviewing a research study done on knee valgus. http://www.strengthandconditioningresearch.com/2012/12/28/what...

If you skip to the conclusion, it suggests that tightness in the calves causes tightness in the tib anterior, so there's a reduced range of dorsiflexion and your feet roll inwards to compensate, which rotates the lower leg and makes your knees cave in.

A temporary fix for you might be a 2 inch heel raise, as it worked for lifters in the study.

The 'in a nutsehell' recommendation of the article was, "Athletes who display knee valgus should work to develop ankle dorsiflexion ROM during squats using soft-tissue work, gastrocnemius stretching and ankle mobility drills."

Simple fix so it might be worth a go if all else fails. Just my two penneth....

Why doesn't getting bitten by a radioactive spider in the first place give rise to a superhero called Amazing Leukemia Man?
» Thoughts on deep tissue massages and frequency (Go to post)15-01-2014 @ 20:50
Try the poor man's massage; rolling around on a foam roller, tennis balls or even hard rubber dog toys (strange but true) can get the knots out of your back and elsewhere. It's effective but you really need to have your explanations ready for when a loved one enters the room.

You don't need a mechanic. You need an exorcist. Did you park it on ancient burial grounds?

Is it your olympic lifting that's made your powerlifting better and kept you injury free?

Why not just wait until they're so high they think they can smell colours, then press your face against the living room window and scream, "Daddy needs to cut your skin vests, Daddy needs your skull cups, the orchids told me I'd find you children here..." etc?

Do Crossfit HQ approve of Paleo now?
I thought they were into "The Zone"

I'm not up on what's gospel, but Paleo certainly appears to be epidemic amongst Crossfitters.
