Back at uni now and with a bank account in a pretty poor state.

Value chicken, eggs, own brand tuna is what i'm going to be stocking up on. Are there any other relatively high protein sources that a skint student could live off?

Gonna get a large sack of rice for the carb source.

Another good cheap carb source is oats, which contain a bit of protein too if you eat alot of them. Gotta be a staple in a student bulking diet i would have thought

My list would probably mean you're looking to put on weight, but here goes;

Oats
Mince Beef
Peanut Butter
Chicken Quarters/Thighs
Frying/Stewing Steak (Slow Cook it)
Potatoes
Pasta
Rice

are all very cheap sources of protein/carbs/fats

Good point about the oats and mince beef. Not looking to bulk specifically, the beer seems to be taking care of that.

Another vote for the chicken thighs. Cheaper and have more taste than the breast meat.

Beans is another cheap food with some protein in. A little high on the sugar carbs, but no worse than the beer Happy

In the same boat as you mate, here's my recommendations based on what I ate all last year.

Oats (myprotein do 5kg for a tenner and they last forever!)

Tesco frozen chicken breasts (£4 for a kg, just chuck em in the fridge when you get em I eat them in 2-3 days)

Aldi tuna (50p a can, can't go wrong with that)

Milk (aldi do 4 pints for a quid. Tesco do the same but usually 2 for £2 but works out the same)

Aldi super noodles (s**t if you're on a strict diet but each pack is 4-500kcal and fills a nice hole)

Steaks (tesco market value Irish beef frying steak I think it's called, ~500g of steak for like £2.50, lob that in the george foreman tasty!)

Pasta (tesco value penne, fluctuates between 9 and 45p per 500g, either way, cheaper than aldi's 50p bag. Catch it when it's dirt cheap tho, it always goes quickly!)

Cheers mate, had an over exuberant summer and came back to uni with less cash then when i finished for the holidays. Might at least force me to sort a decent diet out!

Aldi corned beef, 1.99 per tin, 88g of protein. 4 pints of milk is about the same protein but only 1 quid
