Set off to do my deload session but felt a bit run down so left it as I don't want to risk anything this week.

Felt better later on so did a very easy recovery session

Tweaked my back a bit on the axle. Nerve pain that was fairly bad. Thought it would clear up by comp day and kept working on it but it didn't unfortunately. Will do a write up later!

Britain's Strongest Man 2024

Was so excited and up for this one, was just a touch worried about my back. Started warming up for deads and every rep felt a bit stop start rather than smooth off the floor so I knew this could get tough. Worked up to 350kg which felt pretty hard. Ended up grinding out 400kg but it was much tougher than expected so ended up on one rep. 20kg PB. 2nd to last place.

Axle press felt better but still not amazing. This is gonna be a common theme actually. 160kg 3 reps.

Sandbags 4 bags in 12 seconds.

Medley actually felt fine but was just a little below most of the pack.

Stones felt terrible like deads.

Overall 8th place and very annoying that I couldn't compete at full strength as I felt absolutely amazing a week ago. The good thing is I still managed some PBs while compromised so I'm excited to see what I can do at my next comp I'm just gutted I couldn't put in a big performance here.

Monday

Trained today, kept it mostly to upper body work as the back is pretty sore.

Single leg RDL 20 3x10 EL

Seated leg curl 3x12 EL

Pull up Bwx10

Seated row 3x12

Dumbbell pullover 30 3x12

L-sit iso Bw 3x10 seconds

Box jumps

Felt a lot better afterwards actually. Back is much looser. Will freestyle this week and then from next week I'll be getting on a strength block with a big focus on back/posterior chain strength. As much as I improved a lot in this block my back and hips are still weak compared to the top guys. Anterior chain/pressing/carries/grip etc I'm comfortably world class in but my back strength is still at a deficit. Big focus on stuff leg deads to start and bringing them up to 300x5. I probably don't need to train much else for a while so I'm gonna go very much all in on my pulling movements and try to put my deadlift into a position that is competitive internationally.

It's utterly wild to think that a man who can pull 400kg isn't winning the deadlift these days. Absolutely wild and congratulations on an absolutely unreal deadlift.

Thank you mate! The standard is incredible nowadays.

So I trained a short session in the garage Wednesday and then had a few days off as my baby daughter was born Thursday morning! Absolutely over the moon that her and Shannon were safe and healthy so that's been taking up most of time this last week! I have trained twice so far but with her turning up a few days late I'm just using this week to get used to having Nancy in the gym and getting my eye in with exercises I haven't done for a while! Will start properly next week.

Your biggest PB to date! Congrats on the little nipper matey. That's wonderful.

Good start. Flew through this pretty quick. Feeling strong considering the change in sleep pattern with Nancy being here. Bodes well!

Done. Will train today and tomorrow and then will be adding an event session in next week. Just being cautious with how we progress back to our normal training routine but the big focus at the moment is pulling strength over events so not a bad time to ease them back in.
